5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Replacement; Price & Performance
Dealer wants $7 to $8 per pin; Home Depot sells them in a 3 pack for $14.95. Even with shipping this 10 pack comes out to $1.50 per pin. That is one heck of a bargain especially since the parts are from Oregon, a dependable manufacturer which has made chain saw parts & chains for what seems like forever. If these pins are just half as good as their cutting chains,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Large bolts, not small ones
The item description promises small bolts, but I've got large ones - useless for my snow thrower model. I am sending them back.

That is one heck of a bargain especially since the parts are from Oregon, a dependable manufacturer which has made chain saw parts & chains for what seems like forever. If these pins are just half as good as their cutting chains, they'd still be a bargain at twice the price. I bought 2 packs & saved on the minimal shipping price difference. And the vendor shipped very promptly.

I'm so glad that Amazon had these shear bolts for my Snoblower. I live in Nevada and it's hard to find any items like this here. The quality and service were wonderful and I thank you so much.

I thought the 10 pack shear bolts was a good price considering that they are the OEM pins for my snow machine.
I went to a local hardware store only to find out that their price was doubled per shear bolt. I recommend the 10 pack for sure!

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 PACK. NOT A GOOD DEAL, December 4, 2009

Do your research before ordering. In the past this was a 10-pack of nuts and bolts as you can see for older reviews. Under the technical details it has now changed to a 2-pack. I made the mistake of ordering a quantity of 2 thinking I would get 20 for a good price. When it arrived I received a total of 2 nuts and 2 bolts at a cost of $17.09 including shipping. You can get a 3-pack at Home Depot for $14.99. Talked with customer service and they were willing to send me 2 additional nuts and bolts but nothing else. Instead I had them returned and received a full refund including shipping. At the same time I had my snowblower worked on and my local shop sold me these for $1.50 a piece. With shipping Amazon cannot beat my local shops price.

The Ariens pins are plated with yellow Zinc, these pins do not seem to be plated.

Amazon is having manufacturing difficulties with this item. I placed my order for the 10-pack and received only 1 bolt. I contacted their customer service dept by phone, who had another pack sent to me next day air. However, the replacement only had 1 bolt as well. After another customer service call, they told me I will have to send back both bolts to get a refund while they straighten this out with the manufacturer. I am going to order some bolts from else where. One thing I can say for Amazon is that their customer service department was fast and helpful. Luckily I am not waiting on these with a down snowblower!

Edited on 12/28: Amazon has now correctly changed the description to reflect that this is 1 bolt per order.

10 Pack of High Quality Shear Bolts. When using on Gravel driveway, the Shear Bolt prevents damage to the auger during a Jam. Shipping a bit high, but product is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a bargain, May 24, 2008

I priced the factory shear pins for my Ariens snow blower, and they were 10 dollars apiece. All it takes is one snowfall, and not see the buried newspaper, and it winds up in shreds all over the front lawn area, and the front raker blows a shear pin.
To be honest, I have not installed these yet. I worry too much, but I was concerned that they would do the job properly. Sometimes factory components are built to higher standards, and perform better, and sometimes they are just more expensive because they feel that thay have a captive audience. The last thing I want to do is save 10 bucks, and blow a trans. Creating shear pins is not rocket science though, so I gambled on that fact, and bought a pack of 10 for the price of 1 from the factory. Considering the widespread sale of these for so many different types of snowblowers, I would expect that there would be an outcry if they didn't work. Everyone seems to be happy with them. I probably won't need more shear pins for quite a few years now. Most especially I won't be missing one in the middle of a heavy snowfall.
