Excellent Resource For Practical Flyfishing Information,
By A Customer
This review is from: Oregon (Flyfisher's Guides) (Paperback)
Only an angler knows what it means to have the right fly in the right river at the right time. The information Mr. Huber provides in this concise informative volume makes the difference between catching fish all day long and standing in a river waving a stick all day long. This book tells you what you need to know before you get to the river. Thanks to this book, I show up with the right equipment and fly selection. You can't always make it back to the store if you wind up on a river with the wrong flies in your vest. This book is like having a guide in your pocket when you are behind the counter. It's also like having a guide when you are in the river. I have often had trouble in unfamiliar territory understanding what the fish want to see; I often feel like they are under water laughing at me. Perhaps more seasoned flyfisherman are better able to understand what is going on. For the rest of us, there could be no better resource than Mr. Huber's book. You will keep your copy in your truck too. If you are planning a trip to Oregon, or to anywhere in the pacific northwest for that matter, I would highly recommend that you purchse this handy treatise. That is, of course, unless you prefer standing in a river waving a stick to catching fish. The choice is yours.

Seems half-finished,

First off, the maps are awful. One would hope that for each region all the entries would be shown on a region map so you can see how far away from each other they are -- but no, there's no such visual guide. You have to read each entry and determine (ah, this one is VERY far south from where I am now).
Also, the book is rather thin compared to the FF guide to Washington or the FF guide to Colorado. I own all three and the Oregon one is definitely the least of them.

The book fails to provide adequate detail on the rivers to make it a valuable resource. Most of the descriptions are generic and sound the same. If you want a book to help you find good fishing spots, look elsewhere.

Of the many fishing guides I have read and the eleven I now own John Huber's stands out.
He is knows his areas oportunities for great times. He also tempers choices with realities of fish size, when to avoid fishing at a location and fishing pressure. Fun to read.

I gave this book 4 stars because it could have covered more unknown streams. Overall it is good though for people out of town, it gives you reviews on all the major lakes and rivers. i have used this book numerous times to plan trips, my only hope is that maybe that will make an Oregon series that covers ALL the water in oregon for flyfishing!!!!
