5.0 out of 5 stars couldn't do it better myself
and I used to. Growing up in western NY I picked tree ripened sour cherries, pitted and canned them, knowing no canned cherries on the market could compare to the home canned ones. 2.0 out of 5 stars How can one confuse Gooseberries for Red Tart Cherries?
Oregon Fruit Pitted Red Tart Cherries in Water, 14.5-Ounce Cans (Pack of 8)
Red Tart Cherries are hard to find in the grocery store, so I was thrilled when I saw them for sale on Amazon. I ordered 2 packages. But, I received 1 package of Red Tart Cherries and, like another reviewer, the second package was a package of Gooseberries. Plus, each and every can of the...

After moving to southern California and finding that sour cherries won't grow here it took me several years to discover Oregon brand cherries, but in the 32 years since then I won't make a cherry pie with any other kind. Thank you, Amazon, for carrying them. So few people cook anymore, it seems, they're getting hard to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top flight cherries, September 30, 2007

The Oregon Pitted Red Tart Cherries are the fruit of choice for my wife who is an excellent pie baker. The price offered on-line is 20 to 30 cents less per can than can be found in any of the grocery stores, not all of which carry this product. Thanks for making them available, I'm looking forward to enjoying the taste of the pies.

I couldn't get this product in the stores in our area. I used to pick my own cherries, but this sure is easier. The price was fair, and because I ordered two cases it came to a high enough price that I didn't have to pay shipping. Worked out very well and I would definitely buy this product again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot better than super market canned cherries, September 23, 2009

These cherries were great baked in a pie. Much better than the corn syrup laced brands you see on the East Coast. The pale color of the cherries may put some people off but it has no effect on the taste. In fact, if you want "red" cherries in your pie, just add a bit of food coloring as the recipe on the can lists as an option in preparation. I would gladly order this product again.

I had a cherry pie recipe for few years now - from the can of tart cherries I used to buy in Dominick's chain in IL. In NC there was only one store that had them, but far away.
Finally, I bought a case of cherries from Amazon and it will just quote my husband's reaction - "Honey, this is the best cherry pie I ever tasted".

For 45 years I have used these cherries when making a cherry pie. Won my first blue ribbon for a cherry pie when I was 15. My Mom used these cherries before that. Why on earth do grocery stores not carry them anymore? What they have on the shelves are sugar packed high frutose corn sytup packed pie filling. I realize many people buy pies or eat out....(America is getting fat)so they may never have had the opportunity to eat these delicious berries. Too Bad. Please make them available again.

Oregon fruit pitted red tart cherries in water are the best pie and dessert cherries I've found. They are not available in stores where I live. Ordering them online via Amazon is great. These cherries are the beginnings of the perfect pie. Creativity is your only limitation.

It's easy to make a delicious pie from scratch. First, make enough pie crust dough for a two-crust pie. (Never buy a pie crust when you can make a better tasting one at home).

Place the bottom crust into a deep pie pan and crimp the edges. Next open a can of Oregon Fruit Pitted Red Tart Cherries in water and drain the water. Put contents into a large mixing bowl. Now let your imagination run wild! Add a can of Oregon Raspberries, and perhaps a half a can of Oregon Blueberries, both drained, as I did yesterday, or almost any variety of Oregon berries that you can get your hands on.

Add about 1/2 cup of sugar & 2 tablespoons of cornstarch to the berry mixture and stir it all up. Place into the pie pan and cover with the top pie crust. Make steam slits into the top crust, and dab with milk or butter, and then sprinkle sugar atop. Bake at 375 degrees for about 45 minutes to an hour. That's it!

The end result is a delicious pie that tastes better than anything you can buy in a store or bakery, and has much less sugar. You can, of course, add more sugar to the berry mixture if you like, but I like the cherries to taste tart.

So go ahead and make a pie!

These are pretty good and I prefer them to anything else I have found, but there are more pits that I would expect and some of the cherries are pretty discolored like they may have started turning bad or something.

I've ever tasted. They are worth every penny and then some. I was so psyched to find out that Amazon carries them. I've been using this brand for years, but our store stopped carrying them.

Thanks Amazon!
