5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Oregon landscapes, May 31, 2005

Oregon is very scenic. There are plenty of beautiful colors, and you get splendid views of terrain from just about anywhere. This video shows some of the best scenes.

The video is divided into three parts. In the first section, we see the mountains. The Cascades. The Wallowas. The Steens. There are plenty of forests, streams with waterfalls, and lakes. We see some nice shots of Crater Lake. Actually, Crater Lake is relatively barren, but the video shows some of the most tree-covered lakefront.

Next is the desert portion, where we see lava flows, calderas, and some unusual colors in the Painted Hills.

The video concludes with some terrific views of the Pacific Coast, where we see some of the marine life and the waterline. By the way, this isn't exactly Hawaii: the water is cold, brought to you by the Alaska current! That's one reason why the beaches are so unspoiled.

I think there could have been a fourth section, showing some of the more normal terrain and flowers of Western Oregon. But the video shows some of the most spectacular scenery one can find.

I enjoyed this video and I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Great DVD, January 23, 2010

This in the new High-Def DVD with 5.1 surround sound from Ed Mellnik. Most of the video is high quality and beautiful. Some of the transitions are a bit distracting. It gives you lots of nature views of the three major areas of Oregon: the eastern desert, the lush woodlands, and the coast. Set to usually good background music, this DVD shows off much of what Oregon has to offer. I found the narration appropriate and interesting. It dragged in some places, but most of the scenes depicted were interesting and compelling. Unfortunately, my wife and I didn't see much of Bandon's coast line in this DVD. All in all, a great DVD that depicts Oregon's outdoor spaces accurately. This isn't a travel log of the state, however. There is a different DVD from Ed Mellnik that does that Oregon State of Wonder -DVD.
