Product Description

Take the next leap in saw chain technology. PowerSharp is an easy-to-use, precision sharpening system that gives chain saw users the power to sharpen their chain in a matter of seconds with a simple-to-use attachment. Fast. From dull to sharp in as little as 3 seconds. Easy. Only three steps to faster, easier cutting. Portable. Bar-mount sharpener is lightweight, durable, and highly visible. Precise. Exact alignment between cuter and honing surface for perfect angles and knife-sharp edges. Tough. PowerSharp chain is as durable and hardworking as other Oregon 3/8-inch pitch, low-profile chain. PowerSharp is a system that includes the PowerSharp Chain, the PowerSharp Guide Bar, and the Bar-Mount Sharpener working together; they provide a fast, simple, and portable method for sharpening saw chain with precision. Any cutting tool will dull with use, but the outdoor jobs that chain saws tackle are especially demanding. Contact with rocks, metal, or even dirt can quickly dull chain, making common tasks such as cutting firewood or trimming trees difficult and time-consuming. It is time to sharpen the saw chain when cutting is slower and more difficult or the wood chips become smaller, in extreme cases turning to saw dust. Before PowerSharp, chain saw users had three options: manually sharpen chain themselves, take the chain to a shop, or simply do nothing. Manual sharpening requires specialized tools and techniques and time. A trip to the shop means time off the job. Doing nothing leads to frustration with the tool or task. When the chain becomes dull, attach the bar-mount sharpener to the PowerSharp guide bar by sliding the steel pins through the guide holes, then closing and latching cover. Press the foot of the sharpener against a solid object, applying light pressure for 3-5 seconds. And you are back in the cut with a precision-sharpened chain.

Good part is its easy to use the sharpening system,& chain cuts like crazy when sharp and holds its "edge" for a pretty good amount of cutting.

I decided to try the 14' power sharp set up on my small saw to see if was worth while to buy for use on my 16" mid size saw that I cut most of my firewood with as reviews were both good & bad.
Good part is its easy to use the sharpening system,& chain cuts like crazy when sharp and holds its "edge" for a pretty good amount of cutting. Down side is that the chain does not seem to like brush or small limbs, it wants to kick on small diameter stuff. Powersharp chain is also a little pricey and have not yet used it enough to determine its life span ( Only needs to sharpen for a couple of seconds, first sharpening I sharpened it for 10-15 seconds and ground / sharpened away more tooth than needed) For use in limbing I have gone back to regular semi chisel chain but for dropping & bucking trees I give this a thumbs up.

I really liked the idea of these self sharpening chains. But they come with a serious compromise in design. For them to be sharpened with the Oregon yellow case attachment the cutting teeth are positioned differently from normal chains. I find that with a slight mistake in log or branch placement and then the resulting pinching of the chain virtually all the left or right angled teeth are snapped off making the chain useless. After this happened with the first chain, I decided to try again with a new chain and be much more cautious about avoiding pinching. No good. Same thing happened with the second chain. I suspect the design could be modified to strengthen the teeth and I wait for that day before using this again.

Great. I live on a 65 acre farm and have 5 chainsaws. Getting blades sharpened has been a time/distance/cost problem. Files are only so good. This method is excellent. My origional blade is 2 years old and going great. Bought a second blade just recently. Dealer told me he uses the same system but few buyers are willing to give it a try due to the cost and need to change out the blade and bar. Under rated this system, thinks I. This is not a professional loggers tool. It is great for light to moderate use on a farm or around the house.Sharpen only when it gets dull. The process takes ever so few minutes.

The new chain was very sharp and made quick work of all types of wood, branches, etc. The sharpening device is also easy to use and works fairly well, but the chain is never as sharp as when it was new. However, the chain can be resharpened several times using the stone, which is much less effort/expense that taking it to a hardware store or replacing the chain every time. After about 6-7 resharpenings, the chain must be replaced - worthwhile value.

This thing is awesome. It cuts logs fast and stays sharps. I got about 3 long sharpening cycles from my last chain before a couple of the chain bar guides wore out and the chain kept slipping. The cutting edge is on the outside. Only downside is that it grabs and kicks a bit when cutting brush or small branches.

Ordering this kit without the chain guide and the yellow snaps on stone holder will save you almost half of the cost if you already have those parts from the 541220 kit. I need to be able to sharpen the chain quickly when I am cutting the roots of a tree. The dirt and small rocks near the roots tend to dull the chain so it just doesn't produce much sawdust. A dull chain will also cause the saw to consume more bar oil. A quick press of the stone in the spring loaded housing for a few seconds will bring the blades edge back to new.
