4.0 out of 5 stars Great clock, just one drawback
This is a great travel clock. It's small and light, making it great for the traveler. It is easy to use. When changing the time all you have to do is hold the button down for the time to change faster, which can be a little annoying if you are setting the alarm for several hours ahead or behind its current setting. The worst feature is that the button to turn on the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful Travel Clock
Avoid this travel clock. The clasp is so tight I had to struggle to open it. The night light beeps every time you activate it; can't be turned off. Just what I need when I wake up during the night and I want to see what time it is.

Chucked it in the waste basket. Look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars What alarm?!, May 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Oregon Scientific AS316NE-S Nightfinder Travel Alarm Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
When I received this product in the mail, I was excited to have an easy to use travel alarm clock. However, when I tested the alarm, it wasn't any noisier than a pin dropping! Not too happy. I am returning the clock and hoping it was just a defect!

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't recommend: could be so much better, May 17, 2004

The hinged cover has a lot of trouble staying open, it seems to be weighted wrong such that it tips over very easily (especially when snoozing the alarm!). This is probably the worst feature.

I find the nightfinder feature useless. Perhaps other find it useful, but there's usually enough ambient light to at least find the alarm clock, should I need to know what time it is at 4am (a quick push back on the clock turns on the backlighting).

It could be louder -- it usually wakes me up, but not reliably. It doesn't get louder at the end of its alarm sequence, just the beeps get more continuous.

I also find it very easy to leave the clock in either the Alarm Set or Time Set (the toggle switch doesn't give you a good sense when it's in the middle), which means the alarm will never go off.

Good things: it's light. Conservative with battery (assuming you don't accidentally turn on the nightfinder). Time is very visible and the backlighting is pleasant.

When changing the time all you have to do is hold the button down for the time to change faster, which can be a little annoying if you are setting the alarm for several hours ahead or behind its current setting. The worst feature is that the button to turn on the nightfinder feature is located on the back of the clock when it is closed, which means it can be inadvertantly turned on if it is in your luggage or pocket. This means more batteries are wasted. Yet, all in all, this is an excellent, well-priced alarm clock for someone who needs to use one only every now and then or for that once-in-a-lifetime backpacking trip across Europe.

I don't understand the bad reviews on this alarm clock because I love it! It is simple to use and easy to set. I've taken it on three trips and it has been a lifesaver! I am purchasing one as a gift for a friend...she has the little battery alarm clock with hands that is next to impossible to set. Buy this alarm clock...you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel alarm, October 3, 2008

This review is from: Oregon Scientific AS316NE-S Nightfinder Travel Alarm Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
I have used this for weekly travel for a couple of years and have been very happy with the performance and reliability. The nightfinder does sometimes get turned on, but it's easy to turn off and has minimal affect on the battery. An absolutely essential feature on this clock are the forward/backward buttons to set both the time and alarm. This small feature saves a great deal of frustration for frequent travelers who change time zones and alarm settings often. The alarm is about as loud as any other travel alarm, and the snooze time is closer to a regular alarm clock. Many other travel alarms have only 5 minute snooze. This is an essential travel item that keeps me from relying on hotel wake up calls or unfamiliar hotel alarm clocks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good for people with hearing deficiencies, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Oregon Scientific AS316NE-S Nightfinder Travel Alarm Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
I bought this clock because it said it had a cresendo alarm...which is suppose to mean getting louder...however, the alarm does NOT get louder only faster. The size is convenient, and the night light is a good idea, but an alarm clock you can't hear is nothing more than another boat anchor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Alarm Not Loud Enough, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Oregon Scientific AS316NE-S Nightfinder Travel Alarm Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
As with other reviewers for this clock, I found the alarm not nearly loud enough. The only way I could hear it is if I was already awake, saw its light blinking and picked up the clock to hold it close to my ear. If I was asleep or facing away from the clock, I never heard it go off. Not very useful, even for a moderately light sleeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's a Joke, June 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Oregon Scientific AS316NE-S Nightfinder Travel Alarm Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
I've waited for a long time for this 'joke' to arrive. To set Time and Alarm you have two buttons: up or down. Say you want to change the alarm time from 7:00 to 8:00, you have to push the up buttons 60 times. I thought 'Nightfinder' is a good worth while feature to have, not so. It keeps on flashing this blueish light in the dark. It tickles me when I recall the first time my dog 'saw' this flashing light in the dark, she 'cried' with a scary noise, got up and left the room. It would be nice to have a constant light instead of a flashing one. The only good thing is it's small and lightweight for travelling. I still have difficulty to open the cover: it's not Sr. citizen friendly. This is my first encounter to use Oregon Scientific, I wonder it will be the last one too.
