The good news:
1. Accurate outdoor sensor.
Put it next to base unit and both show almost the same temperature and humidity. The humidity reading fluctuates more on the sensor, but it's only been 3-4 points off at maximum, often much less, only a point or two. The temperature reading is just about spot on--almost identical or less than a degree difference. As another reviewer noted, your outdoor sensor may or may not be as good as ours (although we now have a N of 2). Note also: this is just testing inside with the sensor sitting next to the base.
2. Large numbers for outdoor temperature and humidity.
3. Solidly built.
4. Amber backlight is great; vivid, clear.
5. Temp-humidity screen on outdoor sensor.
6. Generally good layout of information on the screen.
7. Reset of the min/max every 24 hours (according to the specs). This spares the owner from having to manually reset it to monitor min/max. (But this has a downside, too--see below.)
Now the bad news:
1. The display is hard to read!
The screen is highly reflective, the background is dark, and the contrast low. So, one has to deal with spurious reflections--any light from windows or lights that are on shows up--and those interfere with reading the display. The lack of contrast makes it harder to read the numbers, especially the indoor ones that are smaller. Contrary to the picture here and on the Oregon Scientific web site, the screen is not a pale white-gray or white-blue against which the numbers stand out, but a dull green-gray color that overwhelms them. (We're checking with OS to see if there's a problem with our unit or if it's just designed this way and the photos are mis-presenting reality.)
Right now, it's sitting next to an old GE weather station of ours that is far, far more readable (but whose humidity readings are off by as much 20 points!). Its LCD screen seems a different type, with much greater contrast, with very black numbers on a light olive green background. In fact, the LCD screen on Oregon Scientific's outdoor sensor is of a similar type to that and much easier on the eyes.
Part of the problem is the angle of display. We're trying propping this one up on a bookshelf at a different angle (no tilt adjustment built in, we're just angling against the wall). That seems to help, but will it be enough to stave off a return? Don't know...
2. The installation guide was a generic one for several models and NOT applicable to this one!
3. It has a nuisance screw-on battery compartment on the outdoor sensor, which requires a very small screw driver of a particular size (we had one fortunately). It's too bad, especially as the installation guide shows a slide off battery compartment! That would be much more convenient as one can end up changing batteries often (cold weather, rechargeables, etc.)
4. Terrible packaging-- hard plastic, finger unfriendly, and environmentally bad. We received a flash drive the other day from Amazon in its friendly packaging and that was much better.
5. The outdoor sensor display should be bigger to be more readable.
6. One weakness in the base unit display--the indoor temp and humidity should be larger. (I'd also prefer being able to turn off the clock display entirely; don't care to know what time it is in the middle of the night; but hey, we'll just cover that up.)
7. The atomic clock was picked up almost immediately, but as another reviewer noted, was Pacific Standard Time, not Eastern, and could not be reset! (Of course, this is moot for us as we'll tape over the time any way, but others may care.) See helpful comment to my review where directions on how to reset the time zone are provided (not by Oregon Scientific, but a savvy user!).
8. Reset of the min/max every 24 hours! Unless one writes then down each day, one can't let it go to determine what the min/max were over several days.
We'll follow up down the road to see if these are just first pangs of adjustment or real problems (especially the display's background color)--and whether we decide to return it. (I'm assuming we can then adjust our rating up or down, or leave it the same, as befits our conclusion.)

We ended up returning it. The poor display issue was just too much to deal with. Features don't matter if you can't read the screen easily!
