Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The perfect combination of advanced technology and style, Oregon Scientific's weather forecaster monitors trends in humidity and temperature. The unit's self-setting clock receives signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock and sets itself accordingly to maintain precise time. The clock even adjusts itself for Daylight Savings Time, so there's no more showing up to work an hour early or late once a year. Graphic weather icons depict local weather forecasts for the next 12 to 24 hours for safer outings, better-timed days in the garden, and sunnier deck parties. The forecaster's convenient LCD screen displays large weather icons, plus temperature and humidity readings in bold, easy-to-see digits. The included remote, wireless sensor gauges temperatures from -25 to 140 degrees F and transmits that data back to the main console. The station can collect data from up to three remote locations (additional sensors are sold separately.) The LCD has a blue HiGlo electroluminescent backlight for easy night readings. The clock's crescendo alarm with a snooze function eases you into the morning and, thanks to a dual-alarm feature, requires no resetting when it's time for a short nap. The station measures 7-1/4 by 4-3/4 by 2 inches.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Looking, but worthless, April 8, 2005

This review is from: Oregon Scientific BAR618HGA Weather Forecaster with Remote Thermometer and Atomic Clock (Kitchen)
This is a nice looking weatherstation with lots of features.
Unfortunately it could not link with the atomic clock, although I am within half of the range - even outdoors.
Also, the humidity indication is woefully inaccurate. The base unit indicated 13%, the remote unit showed 22%, while my calibrated hygrometer measured 36%. I do not have a calibrated thermometer, but at least both showed (nearly) the same temperature.
In summation, it's a nice looking thing, but inaccurate; and for that it is a bit pricy.
Finally, for those who care: although the device can be switched to french & german languages, it does not have a 24 hour clock mode.

I got it cheap during one of those Friday sales and I got it for my parents. It has been 3 weeks now and I am pretty happy with it.

It looks pretty good. So I can put it just about anywhere without shame. The setup was pretty painless. But I did not have the patience to try out the auto/time. It did not seem to work as there may be weak radio signal at our place. The weather report/forecast seems to be accurate, so is the temperate readout.

Good little gadget, me thinks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product idea, bad design for wall mount, October 8, 2007

This review is from: Oregon Scientific BAR618HGA Weather Forecaster with Remote Thermometer and Atomic Clock (Kitchen)
I bought this to replace another oregon scientific unit that was dropped and broken. This one has more features, but the small lcd screens make it horrible for wall placement unless you have the best eagle eyes in the world. The outdoor unit does seem pretty water resistant as it sits in the rain a bit.

The thermometer in the main unit is spot on but the outdoor unit seems to read a bit too cold (ie. lower than it really is). My transmission distance is about 15 feet through a rock wall and has always been good. I've been going on 5 months on the same batteries, and no replacements needed yet. I have not tested the range to it's limits, but I have tried 30 feet through the rock wall and it still worked.

the curved plastic of the unit makes it sit pretty far from the wall too unlike the old flush units. I find this a decent value for the cheap price, but I'd say to spend more for a larger and more readable screen from across the room.
