4.0 out of 5 stars Who needs the weather channel?!
We purchased this unit for my father-in-law. 1.0 out of 5 stars Quality seems to be the problem, but it was good when it worked.
I've owned this gadget for about a month, with it working for only a short time. Unlike other reviewers, the base station had no problem picking up the atomic clock from my suburban Cincinnati location. However, the outdoor temperature sensor was very finnicky. I had to keep the base within about 15 feet of the sensor to get any reading at all, and after about 10 days...

When side by side to our unit (different model but both Oregon Scientific)the weather prediction appears more accurate than ours (pressure difference by 5 millibars - which is enough difference to trigger one unit to show partly cloudy and the other to show rain)

After going through 6 LaCrosse units that failed in a year or two I thought I would try Oregon Scientific instead. Oregon Scientific appears to be put together better than the LaCrosse weather stations. Brass threaded inserts instead of self tapping screws for example. It's not apparent from the photo Amazon uses, but the battery compartment serves as part of the stand to keep the unit upright. This prevents you from mounting it on a wall. It's a good design as long as you want to place it on a table. I was hoping to hang it on a wall, though. The forcast feature is useless in Los Angeles near the coast. So was the LaCrosse, and I didn't expect it to be useful. I bought two of these. The first came in white as I expected, the second was silver, but I really don't mind if it is silver. The LCD display on the remote transmitting units is handy to have. Accuracy of all the non professional weather stations is lacking. +/- 2 degrees Fahrenheit is typical of all these stations. The two Oregon Scientific units I got seem to be slightly more accurate than the LaCrosse units that I have had in the past. This might be just dumb luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely unreal forcasting! Super Easy to Use!!!, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Oregon Scientific BAR688HGA Wireless Weather Station with Temperature/Humidity Display and Self- Setting Atomic Clock, White/Silver (Kitchen)
I am very skeptical of products and their so called quality but this Atomic Clock/Weather Forecaster is just phenomenal! I tracked day by day and it was 7 for 7 and being in Chicago and the ever changing weather, it kept up! Very happy with this product. Took a while for the atomic clock to set but it did! Very Impressive!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice, April 25, 2008

Really nice unit. First of all, it displays ALL data without pressing any buttons. On my previous unit, I had to cycle thru all 4 sensor inputs (3 outdoor and 1 indoor)to get one outdoor and one indoor temp/humidity data.
This one displays everything for 1 outdoor and the indoor sensor in large numbers. (You'd have to press buttons if you used the additional input channels for other (seperately purchased) sensors.
Interestingly enough, the forecaster is VERY accurate...Hmmm, must have a real weatherman hidden in there somewhere.

Great value for money but poor weather forecast when temperature is near freezing level and bellow. In a three day snow storm it predicted that the weather would be sunny. The temperature and humidity readings seem to be pretty accurate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forecast, December 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oregon Scientific BAR688HGA Wireless Weather Station with Temperature/Humidity Display and Self- Setting Atomic Clock, White/Silver (Kitchen)
I really like this wireless station, with one exception. It doesn't forecast the weather worth a darn! For the last solid week it has shown it is raining, but it has been clear, warm, and sunny. It always seems to show rain most of the time. I read the other reviews that say what a great forecaster it is, but not for me. I don't know if it's California or what, but if you're looking for an accurate weather forecast, don't get it. However if you only need an indoor/outdoor thermometer, and an atomic clock, this works great! And by the way, it is silver, not white.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Weather Station, June 26, 2008
This review is from: Oregon Scientific BAR688HGA Wireless Weather Station with Temperature/Humidity Display and Self- Setting Atomic Clock, White/Silver (Kitchen)
This product is exactly what I wanted and does all the things specified. I would recommend this weather station to anyone who wants to track the temperature humidity inside against what it is outside. I live in Florida and there is a huge difference and I like to see why my electric bill is soooo high!!!

Had been shopping for a weather station with the indoor humidity display. This unit has it all. My 3 yr old daughter can even read it and tells us when it's going to rain. Great price @ $29.99 - beats the $75+ prices I had found.

I've owned this gadget for about a month, with it working for only a short time. Unlike other reviewers, the base station had no problem picking up the atomic clock from my suburban Cincinnati location. However, the outdoor temperature sensor was very finnicky. I had to keep the base within about 15 feet of the sensor to get any reading at all, and after about 10 days the outdoor sensor stopped transmitting. The outdoor sensor was working as it has a small LCD that was displaying the temperature and humidity, it just wouldn't talk to the base. I went through all of the troubleshooting techniques, replaced the batteries with lithium AAA cells, and eventually called support. No dice.

I like the weather prediction using the barometric pressure, but was suprised when it was 10 degrees outside and the weather display was showing rain. It seems it only knows about one type of precipitation, so you have to figure out based on the temperature if it will actually be rain or something else.

I just shipped the product back to Oregon Scientific for RMA. I will update this review if the repaired (or replaced) unit is any better.

This is a great weather station, especially compared to the one we orginally purchased at Brookstone but returned because it didn't work. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a wall-mount.
