Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Listen to all your favorite digital music formats in a single device with the Oregon Scientific DDM328 Music Orbit personal CD player. Sporting an aluminum-ringed, crystal-clear transparent lid and an ultra-slim 0.62-inch profile, the Music Orbit dynamically showcases your CD's cover art while it spins, adding style to your audio experience. Even better for active users, the player is made of impact-resistant polycarbonate plastic, which stands up to potholes, accidental drops, and other hazards. The rugged housing teams with the two-minute anti-shock protection and the high optical transmission rate to ensure high-quality audio playback without ever missing a beat.

From a music perspective, the player is compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and WMA formats (the latter two when burned on CD). Listeners will also dig the support for ID3 tagging and CD text, which transfers a CD's or MP3's title, artist, and track information to the Orbit's LCD display. No longer will you have to identify a song by track number rather than title. Playback options, meanwhile, range from 24-track programming to more standard repeat (one and all tracks) and random functions.

Perhaps the most exciting feature, however, is the included Music Station, which acts as a dock (with speakers!) for the Music Orbit. Simply insert the CD player into the Music Station's slot-in mechanism and the plug-and-play dock is ready to go. It not only plays back CDs, but also charges the Music Orbit's batteries. Plus, it boasts such extras as an AM/FM digital tuner with 40 presets and five equalizer presets (rock, pop, jazz, concert, and classical).

The Music Orbit + Station, which measures 6.61 by 8.5 by 6.59 inches (W x H x D) when docked, also comes with a fully functional LCD remote control, stylish earbuds, and a carrying case. The entire system is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

What's in the Box
Music Orbit CD player, Music Station dock, LCD remote, in-ear headphones, two rechargeable batteries, external battery case, AC adapters for the player and dock, carrying case, lint-free cloth, warranty card, user's manual.

This review is from: Oregon Scientific DDM328 Music Orbit + Station Personal CD/MP3/WMA Player (Electronics)
Another innovative item from Oregon Scientific. I am really developing a high regard for their products - for the time being anyway. They are the only brand which provide you with a CD cloth and all required batteries. Minor inclusions but much needed and appreciated ones.

I digress, let's get back to the Music Orbit. Firstly, this is a portable CD player which uses the NIMH batteries that you charge in the dock whilst you're listening to an actual CD or the radio. Or, you can just let it charge on its own - exactly like a mobile phone, no different really. If you just want to use it as a small sound system leave the CD player attached to the dock, which should be plugged into a power outlet and use as a conventional CD player,AM/FM tuner music system - the dock's external base wall is a speaker. So, you have a portable CD, radio, battery charger, clock and standard CD player with speakers-if the CD player remains attached to the dock.

It's physical looks takes some getting used to. Looks like a bucket to me. After a while you don't mind it at all - you actually begin to quite like its unique looks. The only thing I would have liked is just a tad more power from the speakers themselves, considering they take up most of the Music Orbit's whole constructon. I guess it's not meant to be the only music system in your home, hence the portable CD player, which by the way can be connected to a sound system's auxiliary and not just the one it comes with. I shall be getting heaps of use from this musical bucket, or as my sister so aptly calls it, 'the pod'.
