You know when you are on a treadmill or bike that has a pulse sensor? You have to grab onto the sensors the whole time to monitor your pulse rate. I had this on while I was on the Polar treadmill at my gym and while wiping my forehead I realized that I did not lose the heartrate when I took my hands from the handles. 3.0 out of 5 stars Works well but strap is too big
I used to have a Polar heart monitor but lost the watch. I decided to go with this model because it's less expensive. I have an average women's size body and the adjustable strap that goes around your chest is too big for me. Since the smallest that the strap adjusts to is too big, I have it adjusted with a bunch of the strap material flopping around on my back (I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well but strap is too big, September 9, 2003

I used to have a Polar heart monitor but lost the watch. I decided to go with this model because it's less expensive. I have an average women's size body and the adjustable strap that goes around your chest is too big for me. Since the smallest that the strap adjusts to is too big, I have it adjusted with a bunch of the strap material flopping around on my back (I didn't have this problem with Polar). It's annoying and will require a sewing experiment some time soon. The heart monitor part works well though. Mine came with a neato bag and bike or exercise equipment holder for the transmitter (watch).

It turns out that the treadmill picks up the signal from the transmitter you wear around your chest and accurately displays the results on the screen. It was like freedom. I could run in a normal fashion, not holding onto those bars. I also didn't need to wear the watch while on the treadmill, which was nice while in the gym. It works very well outside as well using the alarm to keep your target heartrate in check. The only problem I had was that the battery it came with died after 2 months and wasn't that easy to change. I think it may have been on a shelf for a year or more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value, January 30, 2006

I'm using this heart rate monitor as a marathon training tool and so far it has worked great.

Pros.
1. Comfortable (both the wrist and chest part)
2. Accurate readings.
3. Value.
4. Easy to replace batteries.

Cons.
1. Limited functionality.
2. Can't display both time and heart rate at the same time.
3. Maybe too big for smaller girls. I'm 5'8 140lbs and it fits me great but the chest strap can only be tightened maybe one more inch. Of course, you can always modify the strap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great basic & inexpensive HRM, September 5, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oregon Scientific HR102 Wireless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Health and Beauty)
First thing to know about this heart rate monitor (HRM) is that it has very basic features. It gives you your heartrate, alerts you (with an alarm) when you're below or above your target areas. It also functions as a basic digital watch and has an alarm feature. That's about it.

If that's all you're looking for, then this is a real value. Some of the features that make it a good buy are:
1) It's accurate (I tested against a few other high end HRMs--no issues)
2) Unlike POLAR HRMs, this one has batteries you can replace yourself
3) Interacts with gym cardio equipment that accepts POLAR telemetry--this means you don't have to wear the watch or hold the contacts to see your HR while working out
4) Inexpensive, but not "cheap"
5) Comes with decent accessories (handlebar mount for bike/travel bag)

If this is your first HRM or you just want one with basic features, the Oregon Scientific HR102 is a great choice.

Great heart monitor for the price. There are fancier monitors out there, but you might have to pay 5 times as much. For a basic monitor, this product works great. Very reliable so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price, July 13, 2006

The HR102 works as advertised. The chest sending unit needs to be placed pretty much as recommended by the vendor in order to be accurate and you need a good 5-10 minute warm up period before the readings stabilize. Wrist watch display is easy to see and easy to change modes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value + Works with Gym Equipment, July 5, 2006

This review is from: Oregon Scientific HR102 Wireless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this product as a gift and then bought one for my own. In addition to being an excellent bargain, an unintended benefit is that it also beams your heart rate to many pieces of gym cardio equipment (treadmills, elipticals, etc.). I have been very pleased.

I was really pleased with this product, as I began to warm up the monitor after 5 min start calculting my heart rate..it was pretty cool. the chest strap is very comfortable, you dont even have to where it?..as long as it is a certain distance from you, it still picked up my heart rate!..I simply had it laying on the treadmill panel....for the price, I did well!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good deal for me, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Oregon Scientific HR102 Wireless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Health and Beauty)
I've been using this heart rate monitor for almost a month. It has worked great for me. It does have pretty basic features, but they are sufficient and work well for me. The audible alarm for over or under the set heart rate range work well. It comes with a bike handle bar attachment that I use regularly. It helps me keep my heart rate down so I can increase my endurance.

If you are looking for a nice heart rate monitor and don't need a lot of bells and whistles, I would recomend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart Rate Monitor, November 5, 2006
This review is from: Oregon Scientific HR102 Wireless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Health and Beauty)
I find this product a great tool for my workout. I feel that I am now working out more effectively than before. An extra surprise is that this works with the Precor machines at my health club. My trainer is also able to monitor my progress using his monitor's display (not Oregon Scientific). The only thing that woule make this better is if it did not interfere with other monitors. It is worth the money.
