4.0 out of 5 stars Rotating Weather Info. in Color, November 26, 2007
By
This review is from: Weather Station, AWS888NA/BOXMS (Electronics)
I purchased this item new at a Holiday Special closeout in a dept. store for about $65. For this amount, I thought why not? I've had some other weather stations that were monochrome LCD that were usually more difficult to view, or that you needed to touch for a better backlight display. They also were usually cluttered with information all on one screen. This product is much easier and more pleasing to view with a color screen that provides the weather information on three screens that rotate every few seconds, or longer or shorter as you'd like, that include: 1) time/alarm settings, date, 2) in and out temps with humidity & barometric trend, 3) a picture showing the weather as sunny, snowy, rainy... The fonts on this are larger than on most other similar items, and the color also makes it easier to view. I actually prefer the rotating screens than one large screen. Or, with a few clicks, you can also get the info. you need in a couple seconds, or have it set to just one screen, e.g. the temperatures and humidity both in/out and barometric reading.

I have this product in a rental condo located in the Wasatch mountatins (UT), and have found renters, especially in ski season, appreciate a device that can tell them the outside temperature and weather for later that day. It allows them to dress more appropriately and have a better time.

The negatives are that the screen images always seem to be on, as there is no way motion sensor to activate it or option to only have it on for certain periods. I'm a little concerned that with this item always on, it consumes a little more energy than it should, and if you leave it on one screen, it may "burn in" that image into the LCD. Also, I'd actually like the weather forecast screens better if you could have some more choices, possibly just showning a blue sunny sky, or partly cloudy skies... The sunny scene showing a beach and palm trees for a mountain retreat seems a bit sillly. It would be cool if you could even add your own scenes. Further, the attomatic time setting didn't seem to work correctly in my time zone, and I needed to set it manually.

All in all, I like this device and the color makes it stand out from other similar products. If you don't mind the limitations I noted, and if you can obtain this device for a price your comfortable with paying, it should work out well for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars AWS888 Review, March 8, 2007
By

Things that work well:
- Remote sensor works as promised delivering atomic clock time, temperature and humidity accurately

Things that could be improved:
- Weather forecast is not very reliable
- Display Screen is too bright in the dark. The system has a sensor that is supposed to automatically dim the display but it doesn't work very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weather station, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Weather Station, AWS888NA/BOXMS (Electronics)
Nice design and features, measures temp & humidity well, but predicts the weather very poor... May be it's customized for Florida? (According to pictures ... :=)
