Great for on-the-fly checkups, this Oregon Scientific pulse meter with pillbox monitors activities and medication. The device's finger-pad heart-rate gauge delivers accurate readings in just a few seconds without interrupting the other functions. A scroll-through LCD screen includes a 12- or 24-hour digital clock, a 30-hour countdown timer, and an alarm. Built right into the unit's frame, the pillbox features an attached sliding cover and two separate compartments. Oregon Scientific designs the device for portability and convenience, with a neck strap, five-second blue backlight, and battery indicator. Although handy and lightweight, the unit isn't silent--each button makes a tiny beep when you push it. --Emily Bedard

This is a very expensive pillbox being represented as a pulse meter. It is impossible to get your finger positioned over the sensor so that it will take your pulse accurately. Approximately 50 attempts have yielded not one useful pulse reading.
