4.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera for the Beginner
Not a camera buff? This is an easy to setup and use camera. Great for ordinary snapshots at family gatherings etc. No need to spend big bucks on more expensive "mega zoom" cameras unless you are a pro and wish to take a picture of a bear a mile away. For most people, this camera fits the bill nicely.

I wish it had come with the SD memory disk though,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, August 15, 2005
This review is from: Oregon Scientific PV100B 3MP Digital Camera with Jumbo Display (Electronics)
I bought this camera for my grandfather because he has bad eyesight and this camera had the largest screen I could find. It soon emerged that the camera was far from ideal.

Although it has a very large screen, the screen is of very low quality. It has large, grainy pixels which are quite far apart, and the screen is constantly flickering in brightness, especially when the camera is moved and it adjusts the levels. After taking some photos with it in the zoo, we were dissappointed to discover that the color which came out was terrible. Bright grassy greens became bland pastels. We were able to help improve the color using image editing software, but the problem remains. This occurs because the camera cannot cope well with bright sunlight. Images taken indoors retained good color. Be careful with the flash settings though, unless you want to take pictures of ghosts all the time.

The camera was also very slow, and made strange grinding noises from time to time.

That said, it still has good detail, and is easy to use. However I was suprised that it was of such a low standard, coming from Oregon Scientific, and if given the choice, I would not buy this camera again.

I wish it had come with the SD memory disk though, that would have been a lot easier than taking the camera to a store to see which one fit.

Interesting to note, it cost less from Amazon than it did from the manufacturer.

I recommend this camera to anyone who has ordinary photo needs and limited photography knowledge/skill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Received defective.., January 18, 2006
This review is from: Oregon Scientific PV100B 3MP Digital Camera with Jumbo Display (Electronics)
Purchased one for my daughter for Christmas. Immediately had problems, faulty flash. Apparently this isn't just an isolated problem..as I gathered from a customer service technician. But that's just an uneducated guess from the conversation. Didn't need flash for sunlit photos but many were so grainy..many came out okay. Sloooowwww to use except for transferring photos to my computer..that was pretty easy and quick. It was okay for the money for my teenager. Good 1 year warranty as they offered a new replacement, without original packaging. All I had to do was call and they said send it right in for a complete replacement.

3.0 out of 5 stars large display but dim indoors, January 1, 2006
This review is from: Oregon Scientific PV100B 3MP Digital Camera with Jumbo Display (Electronics)
The large display has big, easy to read menu commands, but the image is almost invisible with indoor lighting. Someone suggested that the LCD screen might eat batteries for breakfast because it's so big, but it just doesn't amplify indoor images enough to see what's going on. The photo quality is good. If you're outside most of the time and can't read the typical menu commands with a standard LCD screen, this camera's OK.

this camera was a gift on christmas and i really like it. It is not the best camera in the world but it gets the job done. It has a couple of small problems like if u take a picture too close to a object(like a person) it will just show a big white blob if u use flash. and if u take a picture to far away it kinda ends up purple. But other wise it is a very good camera for the money i also like that it has rechargable batteries because i hated having to keep going to the store to find the right one. I also love the fact that it has a 3 1/2 inch screen. so if you are looking for a good camera for a child and dont want to spend alot of money then this is a great camera for you.

don't waste your money on this crappy camera. you'd be better off buying a disposable. flash doesn't work, poor quality pictures, just a big mistake as far as a purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boo Amazon!, November 4, 2006
By
sosumi (Boston, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oregon Scientific PV100B 3MP Digital Camera with Jumbo Display (Electronics)
Purchased this camera "new" only to find that Amazon had shipped me a previously returned unit. First tip off was the camera was already charged when I first opened the box. Second tip off was dog hair stuck on the black cloth case and the inside of box. Third tip off, some family's Christmas pictures already on the camera, complete with aforementioned dog and the packaging of the camera in the shots.

The camera has to be held very still in order to avoid blur, almost humanly impossibly still. The screen cannot be seen at all if you're outdoors in the daylight anywhere outside of complete shade, even then it's very hard to see. If the flash is on, it rarely will take more than two photos in a space of a few minutes, even even fully charged, you have to turn it off for at least half hour.

I have no idea if other units behave this way, but I am very sorry I did not find all these operational flaws before I let the Amazon service rep talk me into keeping this lemon for a small discount. Boo Amazon! They should have insisted on shipping me a new one and reimbursing me for the postage to return this one. I'd rate this with zero stars, but that isn't a given option.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera 4 the money, December 12, 2005

This camera is great for a hundred bucks.... the 3.5" lcd is a little grainy and not very bright but its a great camera for a beginner and for the money. The camera is very slow to so you have to have patience with it. And yes you will have to buy a SD card for it but most cameras don't come with SD cards over 16MB anyway. Overall i was very happy with this camera and with Amazon's shipping, came in two days on 3-5 day shipping. Ohh and any digital camera under a hundred bucks will have problems with direct sunlight at a zoo!!
