actually...,

I actually have this clock. The ceiling display can be rotated from 0-90 degrees, or there it a button to rotate 180degrees -- giving you 360 degrees. Its sittin on my nightstand, approx. 12 feet from me, right now, and I can read the LCD display from here. It's designed to not be a bright light when you're sleeping, and when the alarm goes off it auto-lights the LED and the LCD displays, so you can see it. :)

Great Clock,
By Chuck from Middletown (Middletown, NY United States) - See all my reviews

I really really like this clock. People complain that the projection light is not visible in daylight. I don't think it is meant to be. It's for night time purposes and works really well at night. The volume of the alarm function is loud enough to wake me but not so loud that it wakes my wife. Great product.

Projection is dark and small,

Unlike some other Oregon Scientific projection clocks , the projection of this model is relatively "dark". Only about 50% brightness than other OS's popular models; the size of the digits are also smaller. Unless your ceiling is less than 10 feel tall and the room is very drak, otherwise please do consider other models.

Do Not Buy ANYTHING from Oregon Scientific,

This review is from: Oregon Scientific RM318PA ExactSet Projection Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
This unit would be SO COOL if it worked. But after the return period, mine stopped working, OS product support was useless to repair/replace. This isn't the first time I've had problems with OS products. I would avoid any of them if I were you. This company should give you "stars" back. This is a -1 star product and company.

This is a wonderful clock! I have really bad eyes and couldn't see the time at night, but with this clock, I wake up and there's the time on my ceiling. The alarm is neat too. The alarm sound starts out mellow and if you don't turn it off it slowly gets louder and louder to wake you up..lol. I think this is a wonderful little gadget at a great price.

Oregon Scientific Projection Clock,
By Mark R. McCarter (Arlington Heights, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oregon Scientific RM318PA ExactSet Projection Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
The clock's LCD display can not be read from across the room during daytime or even with an overhead light on in the evening. This could be corrected if the light that illuminates the clock face had an option to remain on. Currently, one hits the bar on the top of the clock and the clock face is illuminated for 5 seconds and then the light turns off. The second option would be to replace the LCD with an LED readout. Also, when using the projection feature the display is clearly visible, but it is reversed/upside down. One has to turn the clock almost backwards to get a correct view of the time on the ceiling.

A piece of junk,
This review is from: Oregon Scientific RM318PA ExactSet Projection Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
Simply put, the projection is worthless: it is small, fuzzy, and unreadable if there is any ambient light. In addition, it is built like a piece of junk. Speaking of ambient, the vendor I bought it from, Ambient Weather, falsely advertised it as providing a bright clear projection, and when I complained they said I would have to pay the shipping both ways, and they would take 2-6 weeks to refund the purchase price. NOT a customer-oriented vendor. I don't advise buying anything from them.
Again, don't bother buying the clock. It only encourages marketing of junk products.

WE LOVE THIS LITTLE CLOCK,
By Joe from Jersey (WOODLAND PARK, NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oregon Scientific RM318PA ExactSet Projection Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
We love this little clock. The image is large, bright and clear on the ceiling slightly to the left of our bed. The only way to get it directly over your bed and straight would be to have a shelf over your headboard. The letters are about six inches long and appear just like a large bright red LED clock is on the ceiling. My ceiling is a standard 8 foot ceiling and the time is quite clear, crisp and easy to read. There is a focus on the side that will make the image sharp. I don't know what one reviewer is talking about when she states that the display on the ceiling is small and fuzzy. She must have received a broken unit. Another reviewer says he didn't like it because he could not see it during the day. Why would you want to walk into a room and look up on the ceiling for the time? The unit is designed for use at night and fulfills that use very well. The clock we had was so bright, even on low, that if you didn't cover it with a sock or something you couldn't get to sleep. So you would have to remove that something to check the time. Even turning it away from you it lit up the room. This one does not make the room any brighter and you see no beam of light just the large display on the ceiling. No more trying to read a display without my glasses on. You should have no problem reading the time unless you are very very nearsighted. True, if you turn it sideways with the display facing you the time would be displayed on the ceiling sideways, but if you keep it so the display is facing front there is no reason to look at the display because the time is on the ceiling. It can be turned 90 degrees just not sideways. The ceiling display can stay on or be shut off if it is on AC power. If it is running on the battery you have to push the snooze bar and the time will display on the ceiling for about 10 seconds, to preserve the battery life. The battery also acts as a back up if there is a power failure. I do have three gripes though. There could be a larger button to turn off the alarm so you don't actually have to pick it up to shut it off and it could be a little louder, but then I'm a little hard of hearing anyway, so that may just be my hearing. It does not have a 2nd alarm for two people getting up at separate times or if you get up at different times on different days. So if I could, I would rate it a four and a half.

Waste of $$$$$$$$$,

Had a projection clock from Oregon Scientific for 5-6 years, which was great. Therefore this product is very disappointing because of the following.
1) The light is very low so you can barely see the time displayed on the ceiling even when the room is completely dark. 2) The image is very small. 3) The image cannot be rotated so when you have the unit on your nightstand the image is not displayed straight above the bed.

No pleasant blue glow,
By
This review is from: Oregon Scientific RM318PA ExactSet Projection Clock, Silver (Kitchen)
For the amount you are paying, I'm not sure it is worth it. You might as well shell out a little more for a clock you can really be happy with. I have 2 gripes about this clock. The backlit is not a pleasant blue glow but a sickly greenish-yellow; since there is no setting to keep the backlight on, you need to press the snooze button to get it to light up. Second of all, if you are lying down with the clock facing you the projection on the ceiling is perpendicular to you so you either have to get used to it or turn your head sideways to read the time. The atomic clock does its thing, mine set itself after 5 min. I could also read the display on the ceiling well enough. No problems with clarity there just wish it was right side up. Now that I have done more looking around you can actually just pay 20 something dollars for basically the same product with LaCrosse, therefore I would say this product is overpriced.
