Wireless Projection Clock

Well, first off, the clock came with a dead battery pack in the "orb", and Oregon Scientific stated that they stock "no parts" for this model and advised we return it to Amazon. This has apparently been a common complaint.

Being a former consumer electronics tech however I would have been content to have kept the clock and sought my own replacement for the small AAA-nimh pack that prevented the orb from working, but it was other deficiencies in the design of the product that prompted us to return it--

--No battery backup on time or alarms
--Alarm only sounds for 1-2min then shuts OFF
--Poor reception of WWVB atomic timebase (no external antenna)

As an adornment for an executive desk, or something for a nice study, this is the clock. To use as a functional ALARM clock, something that comes right back on with the correct time/alarms after a power failure, and has the ability to wake up a sound sleeper, avoid.

Also, I have to wonder why Oregon Scientific, with the plethera of calls they must receive concerning the dead battery packs, don't keep them in stock. Returns of this item to Amazon and other vendors as defective merchandise must be quite high, and ultimately cost Oregon Scientific who has to take them back.

As for us, we eventually purchased a Sangean Atomic clock/radio and have been very happy with it. Believe the model was RCR-22. Good luck.

The device arrived and after an hour of trying to get it to work (following the cryptic but wrong instructions) I finally realized that the round ball just wasn't recharging. After working with it for several days it became obvious that the battery and/or recharger simply weren't working. So, like the previous reviewer - it arrived D.O.A.

I had the same problem as the other reviewer. The clock had a dead battery pack in the "orb", and when I called Oregon Scientific's support line, they stated that they would have to ship me a replacement battery and that it would take 4-6 weeks. It is a custom battery that can not be found in stores. However, several months passed and I never received the battery. I had to call them again and the second time they informed me that the battery was out of stock and that it was unknown when it would ever be available. So at this point I have had the clock 4 months and still the projector doesn't work, which was the main reason I wanted the clock. Also, it periodically makes a buzzing sound when transmitting data from the base to the orb and it can be annoying when your sleeping. So the clock gets an "A" for looks, but a "D" for functionality.

The clock looks great and it has cool functions but its a big let down because the projection feature comes defective out of the box, either because the charging station doesn't work or the batteries are DOA, in any case there's no other option than to return it since not even the company Oregon Scientific that manufactures the clock has the replacement batteries nor you can buy them anywhere else for that matter, in conclusion if it wasn't for the problem with the projection ball this would be a perfect clock or gift for anybody
