All promised features of this Oregon Scientific Rainbow Clock - model RM901A work as advertised. My only complaint is its flashing colon - those two vertical dashes that separate the hours and minutes (e.g. 11:59). They never stop flashing. Whether its a web page or a clock interface, when I am viewing text or numbers, I find anything that blinks or flashes distracting and sometimes annoying. It would be nice to have the option of turning this flashing feature off.

Very readable display. A little tedious in programming, but once you have it down, it's fine.
It would be nice to have the fiber optic lighting working without the alarm, but the alarm has 4 "soothing" functions to wake to with or without the Rainbow lighting.
The LCD display isn't quite evenly lit, and changes brightness as you view it from different angles. The dimmer display button doesn't really dim very well. I had to place a piece of window tinting film over the display anyway, just to get to sleep.

The design is very nice but setting up your wake-up time and turning the alarm off is cumbersome and many time requires quite a struggle. I wish, also, that the light could be much dimmer during night time.

The best features of this clock are: A/C power w/ battery memory (clock cannot run on the battery, it just remembers your settings), shallow depth (doesn't take up much space on the bed stand), large digits (I'm blind as a bat, but I can still read the time from a foot or so away in the middle of the night), the atomic clock auto time setting and the option of waking to nature-ish sounds instead of a beeping sound.
The drawbacks are many: even when dimmed, the display is very bright (I have to point it away from my pillow), the flashing colon symbol and radio symbol are irritating and pointless, the "soothing sounds" text on the front does not dim and looks out-of-place (why highlight this feature?), the lowest volume setting for the nature sounds is quite loud (more for drowning out noises than provide a calm sound), the sounds themselves are not at all realistic (very electronic sounding), two or the four "sounds" include cheesy music, the multi-color LED light is difficult to control and program (and cannot be set to illuminate when the alarm goes off) and the clock doesn't run on the backup battery (memory only). Nonetheless, this is the best alarm clock I've ever owned, simply because most are so poorly designed in the first place. Mine auto-set the time almost immediately (after I manually entered our time zone). I like waking up to the sound of robot birds instead of an irritating beep or buzz. The alarm sound is progressive, but even at the lowest volume setting, the first few electro-bird-chirps wake me up. The multi-color LED panel is a cool concept, but it's way too bright to use at night (the light from the clock face alone is plenty bright, even when dimmed) and very hard to program and use (tiny buttons on the back) unless you're just associating a color with one of the electro-sounds.

I wanted a "atomic" clock so my wife would not have daylight saving change over frustrations. Our building has steel siding and the clock must be near a windows to get the time signal. I have three other atomic clocks which receive the signal ok anywhere in the home. My wife loves the option for different sounds for the alarm and the large size of the numerals means she can tell what time it is without resorting to glasses.

PROS - modern, neat, sleek design, large display
CONS - display is really really bright (even when dimmed), atomic signal flashes constantly, buttons are on back of clock so you have to "memorize" buttons to turn off alarm (if it's dark in room & you want to turn it off before it goes off), turning off alarm makes a beeping noise (so if you want to turn it off before alarm goes off, it makes a beeping - which is annoying to anyone still sleeping)
I returned this after the 1st night

I now own two of these -- one for my kitchen and one for my new sunroom. I love the automatic setting of the time via the radio controller that is always perfect time and never requires my fussing with it, even with DST -- it does everything itself, even if you have a power outage -- it resets itself. But the real clincher is the big display and the option to have a constantly changing loop of colors playing out of the case. It provides a warm and pretty glow in the kitchen in the evening . The color loop can be set to be still on one color, or off completely. But who would want to give up such a gorgeous and unique characteristic? The other option is a choice of four sounds, all gentle and differing to suit your mood. Or not. The alarm can be configured to use these sounds. I don't use it as an alarm, just as a silently beautiful way to keep myself on time and always enjoying the colors.

Pros - Nice alarm features and sounds that won't wake others in the house (this is the primary reason I purchased the clock).
Atomic sync which works very well.

Cons - Brightness. Even on dim setting it's still too bright.
To change any setting it makes a beep sound. This is extremely annoying when trying to change the alarm and you want to be quiet so you don't wake others in the house.
7 months after purchasing this clock the alarm started not working. Some days it would go off, and others it wouldn't. I'm attempting to get a warranty claim right now and will update this review with the resolution.
