Only measures to 4 below zero Fahrenheit.,

First of all, the lowest temperature that this unit will measure (according to the manual) is minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit. It gets way colder than that here. When it does, I want to know it! Also, the remote unit uses batteries and some batteries freeze and stop working. Lithium or titanium batteries will solve that problem since they will operate at a much lower temperature than regular batteries. Look for lithium/titanium batteries in electronics or camera stores. Anyway, this is a perfectly good unit if you live in a warmer climate than I do.

This is a nice unit. It looks good, and was easy to set up. With one improtant exception. For some reason the batteries for the remote unit, the reset button, and a few control switches are behind a panel with four tiny screws. And I mean tiny, and the screws themselves are made from a soft metal and it would be very easy to strip out the screw heads. Why they didn't use a sliding door I'll never know.So when you take off this panel don't take the screws all the way out, they are very hard to get threaded back into the panel. And lastly I had a 2 degree temperature differential between the base station, and the remote sensor when they were sitting right next to each other, but they may just be this set.

Imperfect compromise,

I am going to quickly list the minuses of this unit:It is eating batteries like candy; It doesn't have night-light; Replacing the batteries on the remote unit is cumbersome; Does not display humidity. So, considering the discount, this is an imperfect compromise! Suggestions: Do something about the ease of changing the battery on the remote; Power the main unit to 110V, and keep the battery only for backup; Make it visible through the night; Display humidity (indoors and outdoors as well!). Then you price it for $34.95 and sell it like pancakes!

Very Good Product,

I own one for about a year now, and I am still impress with this product. The clock is self-setting which is a nice touch. The thermometers are accurate enough. I compared their values with the digital thermostat in my house and their values were close enough. I use the outdoor thermometer to tell me when it is cool enough to open the windows in the summer. It takes the guessing out and save me money on cooling in the summer. The range of the remote could use a little improving. So, if you are in a big house, you may have some problem getting a signal sometimes. In my configuration, the main unit is on the second floor and the remote in the backyard, but the horizontal distance between them is very short, maybe about 15ft. In this arrangement the main unit has absolutely no problem getting signals from the remote. When I move the main unit to another bedroom about 30 feet further, the main unit sometimes has problems getting readings from the remote. Rotating the main unit a little usually solves the problem.

Good unit, but remote range is limited.,

Unit had 2 minor flaws:A) When both remote and main units were placed side by side, they always displayed different temps., ususally less than 1 degree difference. B) Could not pick up signal from remote unit if it was more than 15' from main unit. The manual says it will work up to 100'. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Other than those issues unit is fine.

Minus 4 is only the operating range, not the display limit,

I'm surprised nobody has corrected that in two years, I have been using another model from LaCrosee and there will always be difficulties with signals traveling through certain environments and anything that sits out in -25 degree temperatures running on batteries is bound for difficulties. Unfortunately that's when you need to know the tempeature the most.I plugged this unit in and within minutes everything had set itself. Make sure you install batteries in the remote first. I love it and it looks so much better than my old one. The price right now at 20.00 makes this an excellent buy. I ordered three more for gifts. You will need a tiny phillips screw driver to install the batteries. Fortunately I had one available, this is almost the size of eyeglass srews.

I have had this model of Oregon Scientific thermometer and clock for about a year and a half and it sure is handy. I live in the south and I really need to know what the temprature is, if it's approaching freezing, to know if I need to bring my plants in. Of course we get the weather on t.v. but it comes from San Antonio and is not always accurate for our area. What I used to do was shine a flash light through my kitchen window and watch my dial thermometer to see the temprature. Now I always know the indoor and outdoor temprature and the exact time which sets itself for daylight savings time, one less thing to worry about. I would recommend this item to everyone who wants or needs to know the outdoor temperature.

Outdoor temps way off,

Looks good, clock is dead on, inside temps is correct, but up to 21 degrees OFF the outside temp. Moved the outside sensor around the area, did not fix. Changed all batteries, did NOT fix. Fed up with it. Moving it all to trash. This is not the unit you want.

We have bought about 10 of these in the past year as gifts. Everyone loves them and they've now become my standard wedding shower gift - something for both the bride and the groom. We love them so much that we have two at home ourselves.

I use this for my wine cellar. It is very simple to get up and running. The minimum and maximum readings are exactly what I require and it it great to know how the temperature inside my cellar compares to outside.I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to make sure they are not ruining their wine with temperature flux. |
