This is the problem with the people who write the manual.
Rahmboy
I am not used to those things and the manual focus on high practiced users, leaving lots of basic questions without answer.

Nobody at Oregon Scientific seems to know anything about this software, so it's not supported very well.

I am a physicist who teaches at a university part time and works full time for a major corporation. I have worked as s design engineer, as a manufacturing process engineer and also in research. I bought this unit a month ago and have struggled 3 or 4 times to follow the manual and I have come away feeling stupid. Just recently I finally got it to show my heart rate--accidentally--but then the screen disappeared. I have no idea what the calibration process is supposed to do. I put on the belt, moistened it, I think I got the device paired as required but after that I am lost. I have studied both manuals, tried to follow step by step and I come away completely lost. I just want to see my heart rate, damn it, first, before I do all the other things you want. It is too big and clumsy to wear as a watch, so I don't know what to do with it.
This is the problem with the people who write the manual. They start at step 17 because they know the first 16. Please, please tell me what calibration is for, what the different things are that I can do with the device, and then tell me what buttons to push. And when the screen doesn't show what you say it will show, I don't know where to go from there. I need an overview first before getting into details. I have enough self-esteem to know the manual was written stupidly instead of thinking I am stupid. What a waste!

I received mine in the mail today. Setting it up was fairly quick, it is not overly difficult like some other brands. There is a user manual and a quick start guide. Using the quick start guide I was all configured within 5-10 minutes. I installed the software on my computer and it easily syncs with the watch.

So today I did my workout and I was able to monitor my heart rate. There were no problems with monitoring my heart rate. Many other heart rate monitors seem to have issues with faulty readings but I did not experience anything like that. I like the watch the best. It is extremely easy to read, light on my wrist and easy to use. The chest strap was comfortable during my exercise but it did feel like it was sliding down when I started doing exercises that require jumping movement (e.g. jumping jacks). I tightened it further and it didn't seem to be much of a problem afterwards. I guess you have to find a good measurement between what will keep the chest strap in place and it being comfortable enough to wear without being too tight.

The software is pretty cool. It has all these stats that measure calories burned, fat loss, steps taken, distance ran, graphs that plot your heart BPM during your exercise, etc. Being able to quantify your workout like this puts the science into it and makes it more fun. I can try to push myself harder now that I know what my exercising statistics are like. The software syncs wireless with a usb adapter. It is very easy to do. I look forward to being able to monitor my workouts in this way and it further motivates me.

Pros: Great (and free) software included, easy to use and does exactly as stated, you can customize your exercise routines into the watch (i.e.

Works fine, simple to operate, reliable so far. The only thing is that it's hard to fin a device compatible with, i'm looking for a compatible speed and cadence meter. I asked Wahoo fitness if their ANT+ speed and cadence meter (model WFSC01) would be compatible to it and it seems according to Wahoo Fitness it is not, even if it's an ANT+ device... Kinda disappointing if you take consideration that ANT+ has been created to devices like this can all be compatible. for the rest like i said, it works fine, connect easily to the computer

This device requires the most enfuriating setup I've ever encountered. Terrible design. I wouldn't recommend this to even the most hardcore runner, there are much better, more effective, and intuitive devices out there.
