Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oregon Scientific THC268 Remote Temperature Sensor (Kitchen)
Bought this item as a replacement one which lasted 6 months. The one prior to that had given me over 2 years of reliable temperature indication. So I thought the prior one was a fluke. I was wrong!! It seems that the new one is the norm.
This new one lasted 10 weeks. The temperature indicator indicates 32 degrees when immersed in water. When the probe is taken outside of the water the indication is correct. It appears that there is something wrong with the probe.
Since it is over 30 days since I purchased it from Amazon, I cannot return it.Talking to Oregon Scientific would be a waste of time since I did not buy it from them. Will go back to the normal pool thermometer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product - while they last, September 11, 2009
By
This review is from: Oregon Scientific THC268 Remote Temperature Sensor (Kitchen)
I have used the Oregon Scientific temperature sensors for a number of years and they seen accurate and dependable while they last. I keep one in my pool and another in the spa and they report the temperature to the base unit in my kitchen. But it seems that I am buying one almost every year. They just stop working after a while. I should point out that I live in the desert and these are often in 100 F. or higher temperatures. I keep them dry and replace batteries as required and they are so useful that I am content with replacing them when needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Temp. Sensor That is Very Water-Resistant!, September 26, 2011

This review is from: Oregon Scientific THC268 Remote Temperature Sensor (Kitchen)
I use this temp. sensor to measure my in-ground pool water temp. It is accurate, works great, and as I recently discovered it is very water resistant. The transmitter (i.e., the entire unit including the sensor) was accidentally pulled into the deep end of my pool and it was submerged for at least 20 minutes before I discovered this problem. I was expecting the worst as it has been my experience that most consumer (as opposed to industrial) electronic devices will not withstand being submerged in 6' of treated pool water for any length of time, regardless of their rating and advertised claims to the contrary. I was elated to find that the unit has worked flawlessly since it was withdrawn from the water.
