Great movie for your classrom,

My class was studying about Westward Movement and I thought that this movie was a great resource for it. While Historians comment on the hardships and hazards along the trail, the movie shows stunning pictures of the trail and its famous landmarks. My students enjoyed watching the tapes because it gave them a visual aid to everything they were reading and learning about.

I think ths is the best historical dvd Ive ever seen. Lots of video and still of the actual trail and an excellent commentary. I learned so much about the Oregon Trail that I want to travel some of it just to see some of the sights.

This program is jam-packed with interesting tidbits. A lot of fun for adults and kids. Plus, I learned a lot. Who knew that almost all the children crossed the country barefoot!

I bought this for my freshman northwest history class. The video isn't delivered with the polish of a major hollywood production but it's fairly good.
The documentary is divided into 4 half-hour episodes with dividable sections within each. I like that we can watch a section at a time and then stop and ask questions. I also like that the film uses primary sources quite a bit by quoting newspapers and journals from those that made the journey. While it strives to present the story as unbiased I do feel that it comes up short in its treatment of the native americans views on westward expansion. It's fairly neutral but there's just not much there to work with for initiating a discussion.

This video is a great educational resource. I used it with my 5th grade Social Studies classes and the kids loved it! It is informative and educational, but it also captivates student attention. While I was previewing it in my home and designing lesson plans for it, my husband also became hooked and found it very interesting and entertaining. It served as a great visual aid for my students. I used the video as spring board for some great class round table discussions.

This dvd was purchased for the purpose of illustrating early American culture to Chinese students and was satisfactory for the purpose. The story and time segmentation of the dvd was most helpful with the longest segment about 50 minutes.

This is an average documentary that helps give students a visual addition to the history of the Oregon trail. I was disappointed that the day I showed it was on sale for a third the cost at BI mart.

I was looking forward to watching this because I like history and history movies are usually cool.
You get photos. I mean I know they couldn't record anything back then, but they could have hired actors. A boring person narrarates while picture fill up the screen. I left after about 2 min. |
