The standard against which all other text books should be measured!,
By JanSobieski (United States of America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Organic Chemistry, 6th Edition (Hardcover)
O.K. Let's face it: what could be more boring than Organic Chemistry - right? WRONG! Morrison and Boyd's Organic Chemistry takes the pallid and dry subject of Organic Chemistry and imbues it with a vitality and interest that will stupefy you. Trust me, you cannot begin to fathom how effective this book is at making its subject interesting and more importantly understandable. The authors are brilliant at introducing a complex and arcane topic, incrementally building slowly and confidently a framework of knowledge and information that nearly makes, of all things, intuitive sense when they are through.
Every educator should study Morrison and Boyd in an attempt to appreciate how it works its magic. I can say without reservation, this is the text book against which all others should be measured. You will not be disappointed.

Quite excellent, I loved this one,

I am not a Chemistry major, however I found Morrison & Boyd interesting. I used this book in high school for about 50% percent of the Chemistry syllabus in high school related to organic chemistry. The style of the authors was refreshing, and I found it easy to read large sections in short periods. I also found it easy to recall a lot of points as the book was written in such a way as to lead you from one point to the other, which style is the best for organic chemistry.Again, I used this book for a chemistry course in my freshman year, and I did not regret the decision. A wonderful book, it is a phenomenon in publishing.

The Best book for Organic Chemistry fundamentals,
By Karthik Gurumurthy (gurumurt@research.umbc.edu) (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Study Guide/Solutions Manual for Organic Chemistry (Paperback)
I used this book for my undergrad and grad and I would consider this is as the best book for Organic Chem fundamentals. Mechanisms were dealt in a very simplistic and clear way which enable the reader to comprehend the subject easily. A Must read book for any person who is interested to learn Organic Chemistry....

Great text for organic chemistry,
By W Hugh Furr (Jackson, MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Organic Chemistry, 6th Edition (Hardcover)
My undergraduate organic class used this book for its text. I found it to be surprisingly readable and made the difficult concepts easier to understand. Even though I am done with organic chem, this book will remain part of my permanent collection.

Organic Chemistry: Morrison and Boyd,
By JOSEPH A. PINEDA M.D. (SHREVEPORT, LA. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Supplement: Organic Chemistry and Molecular Models and Study Guide and Solutions Manual Package - Organic Chemistry 6/E (Hardcover)
I am a practicing physician now and have been for almost 20 years. I used one of the earlier editions of this wonderful text book while attending LSU in Baton Rouge, La. Althought I majored in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry, my natural intimidation of chemistry made me "fear" my first encounter with Organic Chemistry. At LSU we used Morrison and Boyd. This text and the way it is written made the experience most enjoyable. It is concise and very well written with emphasis made easily on key issues that build step by step a strong platform from which to learn organic chemistry. My niece is now at Duke University in Pre-Med, and reminded me s of my nervousness as the time approaches for her to tackle this subject. Although her university does not apparently use this text ,I highly recommended this text to her as a wonderful companion to whatever text her university used. I whole-heartedly recommend this text for anyone about to face this wonderful subject and want to easily understand some complex principles.

This book is one of the best Organic Chemiastry texts I have used. It has the clearest presentation of stereochemistry and mechanism, and is second only to Louden's text in volume of reactions. An excellent book.

The Standard Chemistry Textbook!,
By
This review is from: Supplement: Organic Chemistry and Molecular Models and Study Guide and Solutions Manual Package - Organic Chemistry 6/E (Hardcover)
I used this book as a supplement for Ege's organic book. It helped me do well in my class and prepared me for the chemistry GRE. This book is older but well worth the cost. I think it should be on any chemists' shelf of literature. The reactions it tells you are easy to understand and the mechanisms make sense. The only problem I would have is the spec. section for infared is a little weak. But it does everything else well so it makes up for it. Buy this Book for undergraduate study you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely brilliant. Well explained. Everything has a reason, and almost everything has been explained by the authors. This book is the authority on Organic Chemistry at the undergrad level. Period.

Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd,
By Joseph S. Maresca "Dr. Joseph S. Maresca CPA,... (Bronxville, New York USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

This book is very complete. I utilized it in order to supplement formal studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. The work contains a solid foundation in the structure of matter which leads up to the behavior of molecules, hydrocarbons, reactivity, chain reactions and the molecular formula. The book presumes some prior knowledge of chemistry or an instructor who will spend more time on the fundamental principles. There are many examples depicting the various concepts and ample solution sets to assist in homework preparation and examinations. The work is a good reference guide in chemistry . I found that it was useful in explaining material beyond the coverage of the Engineering Review Courses. There is a very detailed coverage of the "ane", "ene" and "yne" subdivisions of chemical reactions. This work should be retained for future use after taking the basic course.

Outstanding textbook,
This review is from: Organic Chemistry, 6th Edition (Hardcover)
I used this text in the 80's as an undergrad in Brazil, and am now a chemistry professor. Although my research is in computational chemistry, and organic chemistry seems a lot like fantasy to me, I still love Morrison and Boyd's textbook. I remember my experience with it, and my awe in finding that someone could actually put a textbook together that was enjoyable to be read, and easy to understand - and mind you, I was not fluent in English back then. I have just recently realized that all my organic texts have been "borrowed" by students, and that I should really get Morrison's. And this time make sure nobody will take it out of my office. If you want to learn organic chemistry with no struggle, this is the book.
