Great Primer on Making Disciples,
By
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
For a number of years now I've been working on a practical how-to book on discipleship. Dennis McCallum has beaten me to the punch with Organic Disciple Making. He's written the most practical book on how to disciple people I've ever read.
Time and time again I find myself saying, "Yup, he nailed that one; that's how it works." For example, early on the book covers the subject of modeling and its key role in making disciples. Later it delves into the practical questions of how you counsel and disciple through various issues or how you deal with blocks in their development. For example McCallum distinguishes the difference between weakness and resistance and the appropriate response of a disciple maker. A disciple struggling with weakness generally needs encouragement, whereas a disciple who is resistant often needs confrontation and possibly discipline. I loved that the book had a whole section on coaching and I loved that its counsel is both biblically grounded and rooted in the everyday experience of someone who leads 250 home churches. I've read so many books on discipleship and few drill down to address the questions ordinary people have as they struggle to help their disciples grow. All of us who have committed ourselves to following Jesus and representing his name need to learn how to make disciples. It was the last thing he asked us to do before leaving the earth. If you as a Jesus-follower feel like you need help in learning how to do this in a way that feels natural, do yourself a favor and get Organic Disciple Making.

This book is an excellent read. It is both Biblically sound and extemely practical. I would recomend it for anyone who is interested in learning how to do Christian ministry. Dealing with people is a challenge, and this book gives great insight into how to better understand people, and how to more effectively love them.

A Practical and Comprehensive Resource,
By
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
In the long tradition of The Lost Art of Disciple Making, Multiplying Disciples, and Disciples Are Made, Not Born, Organic Disciplemaking: How to promote Christian leadership development through personal relationships, biblical discipleship, mentoring, and Christian community is designed to do more than tell about the need for making disciples of Jesus. This is a book that painstakingly provides a path from start to finish.
This book has the potential to be used by small group coaches to disciple and develop small group leaders. With today's small group ministries launching groups with leaders just a step ahead of their members, this could be a very helpful resource providing a pathway for mentoring. In its pages you will find more than stories of how it's working at Xenos. You'll also find the practical steps needed to begin a disciplemaking ministry in your own church. More importantly, you may find the inspiration to look for one life to pour into. After all, that is the point.

Reap What You Sow,
By
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
As much as I am learning about discipleship, I am learning even more about my own personal walk with Christ through the eyes of this book. I am challenged at every turn of the page to consider my strengths, weaknesses, and daily decisions as they impact my effectiveness in ministry. Discipleship is a love relationship expressed in service. Props to the authors!

Comprehensive!,
By Randall G. Neighbour (Houston, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
I was fortunate enough to have edited this book prior to publication. McCallum and Lowery leave no stone unturned when covering the discipleship process that goes on every day among a HUGE percentage of their home church, Xenos Christian Fellowship in Columbus, Ohio. Their process is called "organic" because it is highly relational and discipling others is part of the basic DNA of this church. I was able to glean more things for my own discipleship relationships than space provides here, hence the title "comprehensive". This book covers every aspect of discipling another Christian... from grounding them in the Word to dealing with resistance, to speaking the truth in love... it's all covered and more! If you can't find the book here as of yet, do contact the publisher directly. Just Google "touch outreach ministries" and their web site will pop right up and you can even download a sample chapter of the book!

Could be called, "Christian Discipling For Dumbies",
By
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
If they made a book called Christian Discipling for Dumbies, they would just change the cover of this book. A no-nonsense approach to creating a self-replicating church and disciples of Christ. This book has been impactful in my own personal ministry. The Lord has given the two authors tremendous insight in what true, authentic christian ministry looks like. If you read this book, you will be challenged and inspired to cultivate a richer ministry similar in comparison to what was experienced by the believers in the New Testament.

GREAT BOOK BY A TRUE PRACTIONER,
By
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
This is a great book--full of real-life disciple-making from someone who is doing it. I'm amazed every time I go to Xenos. Denis McCallum, the founder and one of the two senior pastors at Xenos Christian Fellowship, is making active disciples from among non-Christian people. He's actually practicing what he writes about in this book. I've been in the McCallum home on two different occassions and each time, the home was filled with young people who they are discipling--jsut like he writes about in this book. Buy it, read it, and do what it says.

If you want to make an impact,
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
If you want to make a lasting impact for Jesus Christ, this book is a must. McCallum and Lowery give Biblical, insightful, and practical ideas on how to promote and achieve Chritian formation in others. Not many have the gifting to lead thousands. Very few are effective at preaching to hundreds. Yet helping disciple one or two other Christians is something every Christian can do.

Excellent Practical Guide,
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
This book strikes a good balance between explaining essential principles you want to impart to others and dealing with practical issues that come up as you mentor people. It is clear the author has had decades of experience in helping people mature in their ministry and uses many real life examples to illustrate his principles. Most importantly, it is well grounded in scripture. I recommend this to anyone who is serious about becoming successful in mentoring people.

Grow with God; Growing with Others,
This review is from: Organic Disciplemaking: Mentoring Others Into Spiritual Maturity And Leadership (Paperback)
I read this book once and picked it back up and read it again. This easy to read book is a remarkable resource for understanding a BIBLICAL and organic approach to small group replication, and ultimately, qualitative and quantitative church growth! McCallum and Lowery use sound exegesis throughout their book to argue from cover to cover for a God-centered, Holy Spirit-inspired approach to evangelism and ministry development. Also, they include many practical examples from their own lives which helps bring the book to life. This is a must read for anyone wishing to strengthen their personal walk with God, particularly by investing in the development of their Christian brothers and sisters.
