3.0 out of 5 stars The worst of all their albums
Compared to ALL of their other releases this album was a huge disappointment. The music and subject matter are far more mainstream. The dark and haunting guitar hooks are hardly there anymore and Covans (Sounds like Meshuggahs singer, not a death metal growl) vocals just can't match the pure nihilistic fury of Saurons. It's amazing that fans of the earlier Decapitated...

There are probably two things you'll notice right away about "Organic Hallucinosis." Firstly, you'll notice that the music often echoes Behemoth. Next, it should be apparent that the vocals are quite a bit higher pitched here, than on older Decapitated albums, when Sauron was the singer. Covan doesn't growl or bellow nearly as much as most other death metal bands; his vocals are actually quite intelligible, and I'd say the Meshuggah and Fear Factory comparisons aren't far off. This vocal style may take some death metal diehards a while to get used to, but it also helps this band to stand out from other bands, like the aforementioned Behemoth.

As is the case with Decapitated's earlier albums, "Organic Hallucinosis" is a friggin' monster! The six string guitar attacks form a rock hard, impenetrable rhythm section for Covan to bark over. But, as with most great death metal, there is somewhat of a method to this album's mayhem. The drumming is precise, and the riffs are very technical and sometimes even catchy.

"A Poem About an Old Man" is a scorching album opener which has explosive riffs and a pounding double bass. Later on, "Day 69" has a thunderous, jackhammer beat and is capped off by a searing guitar solo. "Post (?) Organic" begins as a lightning fast, almost buzzsaw flurry of guitars, but a tempo change kicks in and the beat becomes rhythmic and choppy, with punching power chords that sound like shotgun fire. "Visual Delusion" has heavy, churning guitars and an insanely fast and brutal blast beat, and, finally, "Invisible Control" is an almost deafening album closer.

"Organic Hallucinosis" is somewhat short (only 32 minutes long), but what's here is gold! If you like bands like Behemoth, Cryptopsy, and Nile, you should definitely pick this up. It's definitely the best extreme metal album of 2006 so far, and probably one of the best to be released all year long.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far the most Brutal of 2006., April 4, 2006

DECAPITATED - Organic Hallucinosis
-
So this is the latest album from these youthful tech metal prodigies I keep hearing so much about.
For being such a short album, [7 songs - just over 30 minutes] I must admit, it is quite satisfying. Insanely technical death metal that is not only `Brutal' but actually has groove! Sure the `groove' could crush a Panzer Tank but that doesn't mean it isn't there...

Solid Musicianship... Insane drumming, (listen to 2:15 of track #2.) Great guitar work, love the tone and the solos are great, and the bass, from what I can hear is great...
Now, I see a lot of people complaining about the vocalist change. Besides this album, the last time I had heard Decapitated was awhile back and I cannot recall what their old vocalist sounded like. I do however like the Vocals on this album... They may not be that varied, but they are mostly legible and are definitely fitting to the music. Actually... it almost reminds me of `Barney' from Napalm Death.

Top tier Tech, Death Metal... As mentioned by others this will likely appeal to Fans of Cryptopsy, Nile, Behemoth and even Morbid Angel.

Favorite Songs: Day 69, Invisible Control and Flash - B(L)ACK.
-4.25 Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best so far?, June 20, 2006

It could well be. Decapitated have become one of my favourite death metal bands in recent times and with good reason. Their musicianship rivals, if not surpasses, most and even some of the best death metal bands without their music become tasteless and overly technical, even though they're still very young. Their sound is solid and has a unique character. And especially on this latest release of theirs, their song writing is damn near unparalleled.

The more I listen to death metal, the more I find that a lot of bands are simply too generic. Too many bands are happy to just through out a catchy mid paced riff and follow it up with blast beats. Somehow, when Decaptitated do this they make it sound original and they do it so well that you couldn't care either way. There really is something special about this band in a sub-genre so full of immitators and mediocrity.

As for Organic Hallucinosis itself, it's without doubt their most mature album to date. While The Negation harked back to the thrashier side of death metal, this album goes the other way straying from typical death metal yet still keeping it close at hand. Tempo changes abound, this album uses blast beats very effectively rather than simply making them a constant focal point. Vitek's drumming is better than ever, in part because of this. Quite aside from the fact that he's a technical monster, the way the band slow down to mid pace from time to time allows him to really work with the music, showing his musical ear and adding subtle yet highly effective nuances to his drumming. Vogg doesn't seem to be doing anything he hasn't been doing on previous albums but when you're as good a guitarist as he is simply keeping up to the standards you've set yourself before is good enough and he does that with ease.

One of the major reasons for the somewhat different feel on this album compared with previous Decapitated albums is the change in vocalists. New vocalist Covan is different to the band's previous vocalist Sauron. His vocals are in more of a mid range compared to Sauron's deep growls. It's part of what makes Organic Hallucinosis sound a little more refined, although it sounds a little less brutal as a result (on a little though, mind). His vocals definitely suit the new direction that Decapitated seem to be heading in here though I do miss the sheer crunch of Sauron's growls (he is one of my favourite death metal vocalists on previous albums, but that's another story).

Anyway, as you can tell I love this album. It may be a little short (not much over half an hour in length) but if you like or are interested in getting into technical death metal, or extreme metal of any kind, this comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful Polish Death Metal!, September 21, 2006
This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
'Organic Hallucinosis' seems to raise the standards of sheer, all-out death metal and demonstrates Decapitated's evolution into technically superb death metal musicians. The new vocalist Covan makes a unmistakeably impact on this release, with more crisp and punchier vocals. This album does retain Decapitated's rhythmic fluidity, yet tracks such as 'A Poem About An Old Prison Man' appear to reveal just how far Decapitated have progressed, with greater depth and a more resonating impact and 'Post(?) Organic' evidently proves that this is one of the years best extreme albums. This isn't an record for the faint-hearted as Decapitated deliver an ear-shredding mix of dynamic death metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album completely slaughters!!!, February 8, 2006

This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
Only a mere 7 tracks and 32 minutes long, Decapitated have delivered the most intense offering of their career. How can a band so young play at this level of intensity?

On this album, they lost original vocalist Sauron and in his place is Covan. Covan doesn't do the usual death metal puking. Instead he comes off as a pissed off version of...Barney from Napalm Death, but with his own flare. He ups the intensity more when he lashes out and screams full force. The songwriting is top-notch. The riffs are suffocating. I never heard an album this dense in nature since Meshuggah's Chaosphere. Speaking of Meshuggah, you can tell the boys in Decap. sprinkled a few off-time riffs on top of Organic Hallucinosis. Eh, well, Decapitated were always technical to a certain degree, but on this album...their playing ability really shows.

All you hardcore death metal purists...you'd best stay away from this album, unless you have an open mind and you're willing to accept vocals that don't sound like stupid sewer emissions. This album is devastating...pure aural armageddon, and very cold in nature.

Overall, this album is sick! Actually...sick can't even describe the music found on Organic Hallucinosis. Just buy the damn thing, (...)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hallucinosis indeed, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
Do your self a favor and listen to this on LSD as the title might suggest. You will see the riffs EAT EACH OTHER BACKWARDS. Such is the compositional skills of these geniuses. Wow and their new singer enunciates a little more which is welcome....more technical involved music this album i think. Buy it it is superb death metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHY BE A HATER...., January 10, 2007
This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
why all the negative comments? people expect too much, from bands that really limit themselves musically. Sure, decapitated has evolved from it original "core", but really its for the better. i have been a fan since
their debut, and im glad the old singer is gone. everyone i turned onto this band hated his vox anyway, stating he was "too cookie monster".
this album is short, but so violent and heavy, any more would make you die. track 7 is the shiznit! hands down THE BEST extreme metal of '06.
the drummer is the best of the genre, just try and prove me wrong!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decapitated keeps it heavy!, May 3, 2006

This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
This album definitely sounds a little different (though not much) especially vocally for Decapitated, but it just might be the band's heaviest offering yet! Everything is perfect in this CD production wise & the band's never sounded tighter! Covan's vocals are great & honestly I like to hear the style that he uses on this album as opposed to the usual undecipherable death metal growls. If you are familiar w/ the band Susperia, Covan sounds a lot like him on this CD. If anything, my only complaint is that the CD is only a little over a half hour; but what it lacks in time it more than makes up for in substance. Definitely one of the best extreme metal offerings of 2006!

5.0 out of 5 stars Death Metal as it should be, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
Lets get the vocals bit out of the way,i know as well as the next man that vocals more then anything else can make or break a band.I was disappointed to hear that former voice man sauron had left the band and where as normally i'd have bought the next Decapitated CD without giving it a second thought, i made sure i heard the new front man before buying "Organic Hallucinosis" Enough has been said over the years about how good these guys are, true masters of their instruments they have fast, bludgeoning, technically flawless and catchy Death metal off to a fine art. This album will tear you a new one! and then some,a must have in my book and to top it all off Covan not only matches the more limited Sauron, but fits in with the bands progressing sound like he'd been there from day one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The True Heroes of Death Metal reconfigure brutality..., March 3, 2006
By
This review is from: Organic Hallucinosis (Audio CD)
I first bought Nihility many years ago after deciding that a band with a straight forward, no bullsh*t name like 'Decapitated' must be worth checking out. I discovered that my assumption was indeed correct and since then I have considered Decapitated one of the finest death metal acts around. After the delightfully groove-oriented guitar work of Nihility and the more rampant grind of The Negation, I expect that Decapitated had exhausted most possible directions for their music and that anything new would consist of rehashing old themes. I was wrong.

Organic Hallucinosis finds Decapitated at far and away their most mature phase both as musicians and song writers. The album has only seven tracks, but by the end of the album I found myself more satisfied with the listening experience than with most other death metal. I attribute this to what i am hesitant to call the 'shorter' length of the album, hesitant because I find the album to be a perfect length. Like a well-crafted work of art, Organic Hallucinosis knows its own boundaries and does not attempt to over do anything, instead opting for packing as much meat and mayhem into those seven tracks as possible.

The recording is absolutely destructive. The drums have a horrifyingly thick, heavy sound that blends well with the crunch of the guitars, and new vocalist Coven has a voice that only ups the energy of this already maniacal band. Buried in every track are haunting melodies and intriguing atmospherics that testify to the album's excellent procution work, most noticable on the devestating track 'Day 69'. What has always set Decapitated apart is their song writing ability. Not only can they play fast, heavy, and tight, but they can construct a song. They're not afraid to take a riff and explore it, as opposed to the alternative method heard so frequently in death metal and grind that calls for a hundred parts crammed into a three minute song. Expect none of that here.

Moral of this story - This album will go down as one of the finest in death metal. Decapitated proves here that there is still freshness in a genre plagued by recycled riffs and mechanized, overproduced 'brutality'. One listen to the opening riff of the song 'Revelation of Existence' will convince you of how phenomenally damning this work of death metal craftsmanship is.
