The OB class that required this book was for my Master's and out of all the books I've had to buy through the years, I'd say that this one was one of the much better ones. It had examples that were very relevant, introduced content in interesting ways and had a light tone that made reading and studying from it more of a joy instead of grudging task.

There are some course books you read just to get through the course, and don't feel like you've learned anything long-term useful. Then there are the books you take reams and reams of notes on because you know that this information will help you in every aspect of your life. Organizational Behavior by Kreitner and Kincki definitely falls into the useful category. I took a sheaf of notes while reading this book and began immediately implementing many of their suggestions. These were not just theoretical ideas that a big-shot corporate owner might use on a gigantic company. The pages were packed with practical, down to earth suggestions on how every person interacting with others could find a way to make things work more smoothly.

There are discussions on listening styles - how to stay focused when working with others, how to retain information and help draw out the important parts. There are descriptions of leadership styles and how different ones might work better in different situations. There are tips on managing and dealing with stress and conflict. You learn why sometimes rewards are seen as greatly motivating and how other times they fall flat.

There are times that the book is oddly phrased. For example they say in 2050 that 55% of workers will be minorities. They won't be minorities then, will they! Back in 1900 Italians and Irish were considered "minorities" and were not allowed to work in some areas. Our definitions always change, and the book should have gone into that more.

There are also items which were just plain wrong. They state that in 2011 (which is, in fact, now) that half the US workforce will be over 50 years of age. I found the initial study they quoted - and even the study never made this claim! The average age is **maybe** 40 years old. It makes you wonder about some of the other stats they quote.

Still, as long as you take those sorts of numbers with a grain of salt, the behavior based informatoin provided is quite helpful and useful. Highly recommended!

Great book. Normally textbooks aren't the greatest reading material; however, this was actually avery interesting read. It has an enormous amount of data to back up its conclusions and a lot of very good information. It should be a must read for any manager as it shows what it takes to be an affective manager in the 21st century. It will also, if followed, garner respect for a person as a leader and manager. I was planning to return this when my class was completebut after using it I think I'll hang on to it for future reference.

This is a poorly put together book. The content altogether is fine, but there are typos, sentences with missing words, and the section breaks for the "examples" are rarely ever examples, but instead just run on text from the paragraph.

It's sad that this is supposed to be furthering our education, when the book itself is terribly formatted and badly proofread. McGraw-Hill needs to work on their quality control.

If you are in a graduate class and this is your text book, you will be disappointed. It does not have the academic rigor you expect, too many secondary resources cited primarily USA Today. The authors' conclusions are sophomoric and bias.

the book was in great condition! the only issue i had was returning it. I rented the book and at first i couldnt figure out how to get to the "my rentals" page to print the return slip. I ended up having to do some digging on the amazon returns page and i still cant remember how i happened upon it.

This is a great alternative to buying the 10th edition (because it was being packaged at my school with the book and code for $350). I bought the 9th edition book for $25, as well as the code for my course on the side which was much cheaper. The book has great information and is so far applicable to the course that I'm taking now. The difference between the editions isn't anything major.

The textbook is very readable, filled with many current examples from 2010. The only downside of buying a used book is that it's missing the page with the access key to online study guides, but I didn't miss it. Each chapter ends with a helpful quiz section summarizing the main points. The curious wolf image used for all editions makes sense when you read the back of the book.
