Book Description

2008
In their new Fourth Edition, McShane and Von Glinow continue the trailblazing innovations that made previous editions of Organizational Behavior recognized and adopted by the new generation of organizational behavior (OB) instructors. Acclaimed for its readability and presentation of current knowledge, this textbook's philosophy is that OB knowledge is for everyone, not just traditional managers. The new reality is that everyone- sales representatives, production employees, physicians -needs OB knowledge to successfully work in and around organizations. Organizational Behavior is unparalleled in its ability to engage students by bringing cutting edge OB concepts closer to reality through the 'theory-practice link' approach. McShane and Von Glinow help readers connect OB theories to emerging workplace realities through hundreds of fascinating real-life stories from across the United States and around the world. McShane/Von Glinow's Organizational Behavior 4th Edition also continues to be the source of the hottest topics, such as: employee engagement, resilience, four-drive theory, blogs and wikis, psychological harassment, learning orientation, Schwartz's values model, separating socioemotional from constructive conflict, and much, much, more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for OB as well as HR, April 7, 2009
By
I bought this for a basic org behavior class that I had last year. The class wasn't that great, but the book is really well written. It's extremely thorough despite the wide range of information that it covers. I just took a basic HR class and when studying for the exams, I actually pulled this one out and looked up concepts that the HR book just glazed over. This was one of the most expensive books I've ever purchased (back then it was $170), but it's also the only one I have consistently used once the class was over. Definitely a keeper.

1.0 out of 5 stars WAIT! Don't buy this version of the book!!!!!!!!!!!, February 24, 2009
We had to have this for school. The picture they use looks like the actual book you're supposed to have for class. BUT when you get it, the book looks totally different because it's the international version. There are pages that are missing (and I don't mean because someone tore them out) I mean that they were not printed in there. They have extra "stories" in there... all related from India, because that is who this international book is made for. They do NOT include the Appendix B which is vitally important to you when doing the "self assessments" in every chapter. If your instructor says, "turn to page ___" It won't be the same as the rest of the class. So when the instructor gives assignents - for instance: "Do Case study 8.1" your case study 8.1 is NOT the same as the rest of the class. I urge you NOT to buy the international version. TERRIBLE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Its Good, February 14, 2009
This is an easy to read book for introductory Organizational Behavior students. It clearly outlines objectives for each chapter and has key terms bolded and defined in the margins. At the end of every chapter there are practice questions to help students take away the necessary information and focus on what is most important. If you're on the fence about buying it for your class or not, I recommend buying it because it's got some great info in there that you may find useful beyond the classroom.
