3.0 out of 5 stars Small but Worthwhile Start on Developing Mission Statement, April 12, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Organizational Vision, Values, and Mission: Building the Organization of Tomorrow (A Fifty-Minute Series Book) (Paperback)
This is a small but worthwhile book. It is sold as a "atand-alone," but appears actually to be a workbook for a facilitated process for developing a corporate vision and mission statement called Visioning. The authors are the founders of a San Francisco (US) consulting firm that apparently conducts these "Visioning" retreats. It is nonetheless a worthwhile starting point on its own if you are developing a corporate vision and mission statement (as I am). I was disappointed that there was not a little more in the book, but it is well worth its modest $9.95 list price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a workbook..., February 24, 2011

This review is from: Organizational Vision, Values, and Mission: Building the Organization of Tomorrow (A Fifty-Minute Series Book) (Paperback)
This book is okay, but it is just some sort of workbook. I was expecting an actual book. However, the information in this book was okay for my purposes. It does have some helpful areas in a very easy to understand format.

I would suggest this book to anyone with the same needs as myself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Combines Theory With Practice, March 4, 2010
This review is from: Organizational Vision, Values, and Mission: Building the Organization of Tomorrow (A Fifty-Minute Series Book) (Paperback)
Organizational Vision, Values and Mission combines some great definitions of values, mission, and vision with a step by step process for identifying them and building them into your organization. The author does a great job of defining and clearly differentiating between a mission statement and a vision statement. In addition, she also provides clear guidance on which should come first and why.

The basic premise of this book is that the organization starts with the individual, so most of the exercises begin with the individual. While this is different from my approach, I can see its validity and appreciate its orderliness. If you are interested in learning more about values, mission and vision statements or if you are looking for some great exercises for creating them, then I recommend you read this book.
