5.0 out of 5 stars Attractive and Functional
An attractive way to keep the recycling separate. Ships directly from the manufacturer without tracking, but did arrive in about a week in good condition. By trial and error, figured out that 8-gallon trash bags work best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too small
I should have paid more attention to the other review on the size. This seems like a great idea, but the compartments are just too small. I was looking for something to sort recycling, trash, and "food waste" in one place (my city does 3 trash bins outside for those categories), but this isn't practical. Oops.

I like the purpose of the product. I would like it to be a bit bigger to handle larger bottles (wine bottles).

This review is from: Neu Home Organize It All Stainless-Steel Step-On 8-Gallon Recycle Bin (Kitchen)
i bought this thinking there were 2-30 liter garage bins but it is in fact 2-15 liter bins. it doesn't take very long to fill one 15 liter bin so i use both bins for recycling.

trash bags do not fit well and can cause the lid not to close completely and don't allow access to the built-in bin handle. and since i'm using it for just my recycling, there's no need for trash bags.

it's a nice bin, just be aware that each bin is NOT 30 liters, but that there are two 15 liter bins.

Once in a while you find a product and say "EUREKA! It's perfect!" only to be puzzled that the makers chose to leave out some very obvious feature that would make this a truly wonderful item.

I bought this can because I moved to a smaller space and did not want to have three garbage cans laying around or scattered plastic bags for recyclable material. I love it.... but... I don't understand why the maker of this item made it so short. I don't think it will hold two 2-liter Coke bottles. It will hold one and a couple of cans.

I don't really mind too much since I just take the bag down every day and don't go through that many bottles/cans in a week but it's disappointing that they didn't make this at least a foot taller. Then it would be an outstanding product.

One thing to be aware of: if you are putting this against a wall (like I did) you will quickly discover that when you step on the pedal to open the cover, it does not open slowly and smoothly but with a shot. You will hear a very loud SMACK sound as the lid hits the wall. I'm working on a solution for that. I'm thinking some adhesive backed soft rubber pads attached to the lids may mute the noise a bit.

I really do love this product but can only give it 3 stars because it's so small.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great...Helps declutter and organize recycling., January 30, 2010

This review is from: Neu Home Organize It All Stainless-Steel Step-On 8-Gallon Recycle Bin (Kitchen)
It looks good and is well made. Some people were upset that is was too small to use as a trash can...I can't imagine using it as such. It's a recycling bin. We use one side for cans and plastic and the other side for paper (junk mail/newspaper/magazines mainly). I like the handles that allow you to pull the bins out easily. It is small, but we recycle a lot, and it gets full in about a week for two adults and 3 cats (canned cat food that we wash out then recycle). It fits the space I needed to fit it in and I measured. Make sure you understand the measurements. It is short. The foot pedals work really well, so far. I'm glad I bought it. I would like it a little taller (to hold more) but over all it helps me with the recycling "clutter" that was visible until I took things outside to the recycling bins. Large recycling items like boxes still need to be broken down and taken outside. This unit is for smaller, everyday, household items.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little small, but works great!, September 30, 2008
This has been a lifesaver for my roommate and I! We can now easily divide glass, recycleables and trash all in one container. Before we had a box for recycle, a trash bin and anything glass was just left on the counter until one of us took it outside. The cans are a little small, which means we take out the trash every few days versus once a week, but it trades off with the fact that this compartment also fits beside our cabinets. A great purchase!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the quality of Simple Human -- But more versatile, and a great product for the value., April 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Neu home design was perfect for our needs, with two equal size compartments -- one for each type of recyclying. And it fit perfectly in our spcae next to a single compartment Simple Human bin we use for our primary garbage.

We chose this over the similar Simple Human 2-compartment can. The Similar Simple Human product has only one lid, and has one large compartment and a smaller side compartment. It did not do what we wanted. And it was about $50.00 more money.

So we chose to try this Neu Home design that was more suited for use as a recycling bin in areas where you have to separate your recycling into (1) paper goods, and (2) bottles and cans

In comparing the two:

1. The step-pedal on the Neu Home design leaves something to be desired. Often it gets out-of-whack --- and the lid will only open an inch or two when you step down. You have to reach down and re-align the metal bar that is attached to the pedal, so that it pushes the lid up properly. Not a big deal, once I figured out how to fix it. But, I have had the Simple Human for a couple years, and the pedal always works perfectly, as does the butterfly/slow-close lid.

Plus the pedals are plastic, and seem less durable than the medal foot-pedal on the Simple Human.

2. The Simple Human is a bit more heavy duty. Seems to be slightly higher gauge stainless than the Neu Home.

In summary:

They may be slightly lower quality, but the price is also much lower. The Neu Home bin is very clean and stylish for a non-hidden garbage/recycling bin. And a very solid alternative to Simple Human.
