5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the brainy kid
Last year we read Beowulf out loud as a family... but figuring out how to fit toys in our closet is harder for us than rocket science. If that's you, this is your book. The last reviewer gave this book a very bad rap, and I guess there are plenty of kids who find putting things in closets easy. They probably would be insulted to be told that they could consider putting...

3.0 out of 5 stars More fluff and repetition rather than substance
This book has some good information, but there is a lot of fluff and repetition, as well as empty pages for you to write notes on after every chapter. If the book were printed properly without so much double-spacing and blank pages, it would be less than half the size.

3.0 out of 5 stars More fluff and repetition rather than substance, August 20, 2008
This review is from: Organized Kidz: E-Z Solutions for Clutter-Free Living (Paperback)
This book has some good information, but there is a lot of fluff and repetition, as well as empty pages for you to write notes on after every chapter. If the book were printed properly without so much double-spacing and blank pages, it would be less than half the size.

The book seems to be directed at parents, yet the authors write as if children are the readers. As an adult reading it, the writing style gets annoying rather quickly. And if your child is a sophisticated reader, he or she will probably be annoyed by it as well.

Borrow it from the library first.

Last year we read Beowulf out loud as a family... but figuring out how to fit toys in our closet is harder for us than rocket science. If that's you, this is your book. The last reviewer gave this book a very bad rap, and I guess there are plenty of kids who find putting things in closets easy. They probably would be insulted to be told that they could consider putting things away to make their lives easier. For my family, however, this book fits the bill.

The book is written for the brainy grade school child, and probably with the idea that the parents will be reading along and empowering the child to implement the suggestions provided. We began this book at the beginning of the summer to work on a little at a time through the summer.

If you want maxims like "The 3-Toy Rule" and the "Clean As You Go Habit" to be presented for discussion in your family... if you need to have logical reasons presented for the habits of cleanliness... this is your book.

The book presents a lot of little lists like: "Four Basic Solutions for Storage: 1. hang it, 2. put it in a drawer, 3. store it on the floor, 4. shelve it."

This book empowers a kid to think through the options for organization and to do something about it. There are three sections to the book...

* organize clutter
* organize time
* organize paper

Have fun, little brainy kids of the world!
