Editorial Reviews

Review

If students have their schoolwork organized thoroughly then they have won half the battle for a great school career. [Janet Fox] gives specific ideas of what to purchase, such as plastic pouches and folders, dividers and binders, in a precise shopping list. The best advice is "when in doubt, throw it out." The other significant message is to have a planner and check it every morning and evening. She advises picking out your clothes and packing your lunch the night before. There are also great clues to paying attention to information a teacher gives because it will be on a test: how to write this information down and highlight it. In reading texts for class, Fox reminds students to skim, highlight, and summarize.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute - but they have to want it, May 20, 2008
It was a cute book - my daughter thought it was "interesting". She flipped through it - but then more or less it got tossed in the heap of other books that she has. All in all - just because you want them to be organized - doesn't mean that a book is going to fix it. And that goes for all books on this subject.

If you are looking for a miracle cure...there isn't one.
If you are looking for maybe a hint or two - that may or may not stick with you child... Then go ahead and purchase the book - but to be honest - it would be cheaper to just borrow it - or something like it from the library.... After all it probably won't get looked at again after a week anyways.

This really didn't cover anything that doesn't come up all the time in our normal "you need to be more organized" conversations. It just repeated us. My son lost interest real fast. I asked him what he learned and he said "I need to be organized". Yep, kind of knew that already.

This book is simple to read yet informative and effective for my upcoming 6th grader. There are great ideas for students to prepare for middle and high school. Awesome techniques!
