In Search of the Gantt Chart,

This review is from: Organizing for Work by Henry Laurence Gantt (Paperback)
I ordered this book because I teach/practice project management - the "Gantt Chart" is one of the standard project plan displays. I'd never known who "Gantt" was (Henry Gantt) and finally did a Google on him. Saw that he'd written a book on work and decided to order it (out of print).
Turns out its not about project management. Although there are Gantt Charts, they're not what I was expecting - they are tools to see what the plan of work is (i.e. for production) and how progress is being made against the plan. The thing that surprised (and delighted) me was his "radical" view of business, especially for a book written in the early 1900's. For example, he thinks that one of the main purposes of a business is to provide a good salary for the employee. Pretty far out when you consider the behavior of most companies today. If you're interested in a book that combines a fact-based view of business with a Christian view of how business should be operated, go find an old copy of Henry Gantt's book.
