Biography

Motörhead have never JUST been the best rock'n'roll band in the world. They've never JUST been the loudest. Or the hardest. Or the toughest. Or the bad-ass-est. No...Motörhead are also a lifestyle.

Motörhead are a mindset, a belief, a way to live your life, a way to both survive and beat a society that sometimes seems intent on grinding you down.

Begin here and/or with Ace of Spades for a great band at their peak.
M. Bergeron
I picked up the record in 1987 amongst dozens of other metal albums of the time, and still play this one constantly (in 2003)!
Drew C. Barnum
Well the production in this album is not so good but the tracks are very good.

After Fast Eddie exited the band in 1983, many a fan foresaw the band's demise. "Another Perfect Day" and a compilation album (NO REMORSE) were released to keep fans happy. The compilation album contained 4 new tracks by a "new" Motorhead line up. Replacing Fast Eddie came Phil and Wurzel (on guiars)and on drums, ex-SAXON skin basher Pete Gill. It took the band over to years two release a full length album with this new line up, but the wait was worthwhile, since ORGASMATRON is what I consider their last "truly great" album. I'm a huge fan of their "Iron Fist" album and I seriously doubted the band could top it ("Another Perfect Day", while being pretty decent, was far from perfect). If they didn't top it, at least the quality factor was not dimished. Granted, having 2 guitar players in a band that has been a trio forever would ultimately change the sound. It was nice to hear that the sound wasn't dramatically altered, yet there subtle changes that made ORGASMATRON sound fresh. "Deaf Forever" opens the album with a bang: a slow paced number that resonates with heaviness. "Nothing Up My Sleeve" is just classic, fast paced MOTORHEAD. The song slightly reminds me of "20, 000 feet", a classic SAXON song. "Claw","Mean Machine" and "Riding With The Driver" are classic fast MOTORHEAD, while the title track shows a different sound, more akin to BLACK SABBATH. It's a slow, marching number that reeks of heaviness in a way the band hadn't attempted before. It strays a bit from MOTORHEAD's blues-based mayhem and veers directly into more traditional euro-metal. Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA did a version of this song so great, that many headbangers here in Mexico think it's theirs!!!
ORGASMATRON is a great great album.

It's a real shame that Motothead's best album has never made a good transition to CD. The masterful production by Bill Laswell that has so much punch on vinyl, sounds thin and weak on both the early domestic and this UK remaster version. Depite that poor sound, Orgasmatron still rates a five star rating...strong writing and performance all around.

I was a kid back in 86 when i was introduced to Motorhead with this fascinating album, i was so intrigued about this guys because they seemed to be very loved by many metal fans i loved Metallica, I loved Megadeth and voivod and i ignored that without this band the whole concept of speed metal would be very different or even inexistent, so the first picture in my mind about Motorhead was as a quartet , later i found out that their classic line up is a trio and that they had a large resumee of awesome albums starting from early 70s and that Lemmy and his band mates were years ahead their age, now i love some of that great albums but "Orgasmatron" opened to me the gates of this brittish ensamble, this cd is suposed to be a remastered edition i seriously have my doubts, however the spirit is the same and i still enjoy this collection of songs after all this years

With Orgasmatron, Motorhead's (sorry, this editor can't produce umlauts) output changed considerably in style. Previous releases had been in their characteristic 'Is it punk, or is it rock 'n' roll or is it metal?' style, but this release is much more a metal album. Perhaps that's why it isn't as well thought of as its quality would demand; Orgasmatron is one of the best albums Motorhead ever made, but it doesn't _sound_ like Motorhead.
Not that it lacks the trademark Motorhead energy; far from it. 'Riding with the Driver' races past and leaves you breathless, and while many of the other tracks are slower, they are no less powerful. 'Deaf forever' and the title track are probably the stand outs on this album, but check out 'Built for Speed', perhaps the ultimate statement of Motorhead's philosophy of life.
A classic.

Orgasmatron is an Awesome Motörhead CD. The title track alone is worth the purchase. A few songs are a little bit weak and prevent this from being five stars like The Claw, that track just kind of annoys me. The bonus tracks are a nice addition as well. The opening track Deaf Forever is another song that earns praise. It's a nice place to start your Motörhead collection. Excellent riffs, awesome songs, but a few filler tracks bring it down to 4 stars, but that doesn't take away the fact of how great the others are. Go ahead, buy it and listen. The band Sepultura also has a pretty sweet cover of the title track that almost outdoes Motörhead's.

There are some really great songs on this CD. Too bad the sound quality is so poor. I would recommend getting it, but be prepared for a lack of bass or treble definition. Whoever mixed this thing was either doing it for the first time or deaf.

The majority of the songs are just great, the guitars makes you forget evrything about Eddie (and Robbo, whom you allready forgot), and the drums are really good. But still, it sounds as someone put a carpet over your speakers. OK, maybe not that bad, but on CD this album does not sound as it should sound, that is: heavy, fast and just plain dirty.

But still, some songs does work. DEAF FOREVER is just as mighty as you want it to be.

NOTHING UP MY SLEEVE shows how good Wursel and Phil are together. Really nice chorus.

RIDIN' WITH THE DRIVER should have been the title track. It does deserve it and it's just to weird to call the album Orgasmatron and then have a train on the album cover...

And the title song itself, the all so powerful ORGASMATRON, shows that Lemmy is a genius when it comes to writing lyrics.

Not their best, but REALLY far from their worst. To bad though, that Pete Gill didn't make more then one album; they could've used his drums on the following three albums untill Mikkey Dee took over.
