This is a really good item for dogs with long floppy ears... it keeps the ears out of the water. Also, it's good in the car for those road trips... keeps the water from splashing out.

Before I go into why this product didn't work for me, I will say that despite my skepticism this truly is a "spill proof" design. It's bigger than it looks in the picture and it holds a LOT of water. I found the 2 (actually 3) pieces to be not difficult at all to separate, in fact they snap together perfectly and easily (tho you may have trouble if you're older or have arthritis). So my first impressions were that this was a great product.

I purchased this because I leave my 9 month old German Shepherd, Xindra, in a crate at home while I'm at work. Xindra's a pretty well behaved dog and doesn't chew much, but she does have a habit of getting a little antsy while she's left home alone. She chewed up a blanket I left in her crate and turned her regular bowl upside down spilling water everywhere when I left it in her crate with her. I thought the buddy bowl would be the perfect spill-proof bowl to leave in her crate with her.

Well, the day I recieved this product I came home for a late lunch to let her out and I showed her the bowl, she seemed to like it and figured out how to drink through the narrow opening almost immediately. So I left it in her crate with her upon my departure, thinking I'd found the perfect solution. That was about 2pm today. When I came home from work at 5pm, there was water all over the crate and all over Xindra! I couldn't believe my eyes! I picked up the bowl and she had chewed through it! After only 3 hours alone with Xindra, my buddy bowl looks as if it's been through a war zone - it's punctured in four or five places, the little handle type thing on the side is totally ripped up, and it leaks water all over the place.

In summary, this is a brilliant idea and a brilliant spill-proof design, but it needs to be made out of a stronger material to stand up to dog's who chew. It only lasted my dog 3 hours, and she isn't even that bad of a chewer (I've been leaving a red Kong with peanut butter in it in her crate with her every day for 2 weeks and she hasn't done any discernable damage to it). I would imagine the exact same design made out of stainless steel (possibly encased with a rubber material) would have worked perfectly.

I would note this would still be a great product for situations in which I can observe my dog, such as in the car. But if you plan to leave your dog alone with it, my recommendation would be to only buy this product if your dog isn't a chewer.

Finally, if anyone knows of another version of the Buddy Bowl with a more chew proof material (a stainless steel version), please let me know in the comments section as I'd definately be interested in it. Alas, I've searched for such a product and can't find it.

As the mother of a toddler who loves to dump the dog water all over the kitchen floor and herself, I LOVE THIS!!!!!! It really does not spill!!!! No more wet floors, slipping and sliding, etc. This product is a life saver and a wonder.

These water bowls are great. I have a cat that loves to tip over water bowls and if she can't tip it she will splash water out of the bowl. She can't tip this bowl and can't splash either. I've had the smaller version of the Buddy Bowl for years until it wore out. I decided to replace it with the 1/2 gallon size and my two cats like this one even better. At first I thought it might be too big for cats but it isn't if the cats are full grown.

I've had the "BuddyBowl" for several years. All I can say is I wouldn't be without. I drive a semi & have a Min-Pin riding along. As rough riding as a semi is this the only thing I've found that really works. Before that I carried a plain 'ol dog bowl & would have to empty & refill when I stopped & started. This way I can leave it full & the dog has water at all times. Wish I could find the smaller one though.

I love this bowl! No more spilled water! One of my 4 cats, Buddy, likes to play in the water and frequently tips any waterbowl over that I've tried. He's not able to tip over the BuddyBowl. It took them a little time to get used to drinking out of this bowl, but they all do now without a problem.

This is the BEST bowl for traveling; water will not slosh out of the bowl when you are moving, no matter how bouncy the road may be. In fact, when this bowl is filled properly, it can literally be flipped around and barely a drop or two of water will spill out. The bowl comes in three parts that fit tightly together to form a siphoning funnel into the main chamber. As the water is poured into the bowl, the water spins down into the chamber until it is full, which you will know because of a waterline mark on the inside of the bowl. There are only two things about the bowl that I would consider negative: 1)The three pieces are very difficult to take apart, but I think this is necessary to keep it water-tight. 2)When the water level is getting low, the inverted cone shape of the inside of the bowl makes it is hard to drink from since the diameter of the bowl gets smaller the lower the water level gets. (Again, I believe this to be intergral to the spill-proof design of the bowl.) Because of this, the bowl has to be refilled more often than a conventional bowl, but it does NOT spill.

This bowl really doesn't spill. You can put it upside down and no water comes out! The only downfall is it is hard to take the top off. But its worth it.

I borrowed this one from my in-laws who are waiting to get their cocker spaniel. We have a cocker and a beagle. They both drink out of it and i have less drips on the floor from ears and such. My son can't even tip it over. Overall i think the bowl is great! Two picky drinkers when it comes to clean water! I am buying 2!

I had just about given up on my cat. He likes to splash the water every time he goes to get a drink. I tried small bowls and the Drinkwell water fountain and he always scooped half of it onto the floor every time he got a drink. Big mess, and a pain to keep the water dish full. Well this one works GREAT. He still tries to splash the water, but the dish holds the water in, and he gets the ripples he so likes to see. Everyones happy!
