What went wrong?!,
By Vinster (Jersey City, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Orgy: Trans Global Spectacle (DVD)
I feel it necessary to give a brief background before I give my opinion of this DVD:
I got into Orgy when they released Vapor Transmission & was blown away- taken as a whole this album was near perfection to me- I went to see them twice on that tour. Am I a fan? Well, I am a fan of Vapor. (Candyass is a solid release; I'm not that thrilled with PunkStatik). Since 2003 I remember seeing on the band's website that they were planning a DVD...I kept waiting and waiting... The more time passed, the more impatient I became. I knew there was a lot of good footage to be had to put out a live DVD (I remember seeing an awesome live internet broadcast of the band playing songs for the release of Vapor, which was so well produced I just knew this would have to make it's way into the DVD release...NOT). The DVD is mostly (95%) of the band behind the scenes/backstage, or getting ready to go on stage. The "live" concert footage you do get to see is mostly all the quality of a hand-cam bootleg. What happened to all the professionally recorded concert footage? You'll see the members getting drunk, being goofy, filming videos, having their eyebrows waxed, etc. At some point I said to myself that this surely must be a joke. This is going to be difficult for me to say, but I feel so insulted that the band would release something so sub-par. It really boils my blood. Watching this DVD had me wading through the band's goofiness in search of one little morsel of music. When that music comes, it's usually badly recorded live audio which then cuts into the actual audio from their CD's. I already have their CD's, I don't need, nor appreciate this. Or, as is typical with this DVD: You'll see the band getting all hyped for a live show: being led to the stage & once on the stage you'll catch 10 seconds of them starting a song and then it cuts back to more backstage silliness. I kept telling myself "This has to get better" and when they would show Amir prepping a guitar lick for a song I had some hope- finally some decent behind the scenes footage of them laying down studio tracks, but this would last 10 seconds & then go back to the band doing everything under the sun (except performing). I'm going to give the band the benefit of the doubt and assume this DVD was released to satisfy their own self-serving needs and that they plan to follow it up with an actual live concert DVD (which I've been waiting a few years for). The DVD includes their music videos, all the aforementioned footage and a dreadful navigation menu that merely chops this disc up according to each album. Unless you are a diehard fan, AVOID! If you are looking for a professional concert, look elsewhere.

Very funny stuff,

This DVD is 3 hours of funny behind the scenes stuff, from 1997 -2004 including live performance clips, tour bus antics and yes I have seen it. Special guest appearances by Sugar Ray, Papa Roach, Spineshank, Alien Ant Farm and Matt Pinfield to name a few. The DVD has their entire music video collection, tracks from all 3 albums and new music only available on the DVD. The package is totally awesome. These guys are totally nuts :)

F.W.I. I OWN THIS DVD. I gave this dvd 2 stars because i enjoy some of this dvd like when they are recording for their albums or some of the pranks in here. Like another reviewer said this dvd has little live footage and if they show it, a majority is just songs of of the albums instead of hearing the live song. I am disappointed of this dvd. This dvd also has orgy's 4 music videos, 4 pure tracks, some pictures of each member, and thank you's. You should stay away from this unless you want to be completely bored for about 3 hours. to make a long story short : this dvd sucks

Orgy Fans Anticipation,
By MikeyMc19 "mikeymc19" (Western Ohio) - See all my reviews

For all of you Orgy fans out there (like myself), PRE-ORDER THIS DVD. I have read many articles and testimonies from the band members themselves about Trans Global Spectacle and it sounds like it is going to be amazing. This DVD will be a must have for any Orgy fan or anyone that likes rock music, period. Trans Global Spectacle is going to contain live concert footage from their CandyAss, Vapor Transmission and Punk Statik Paranoia Tours; Interviews; Behind-the-Scenes Footage; All of Orgy's Music Videos; Backstage and Tour Antics; and footage of the band from the first song they ever recored up to finishing Punk Statik Paranoia (Orgy's 3rd Album- if you don't have it, Order it when you Pre-Order Trans Global Spectacle). I am patiently waiting for August 23rd when the DVD comes out, but you can be assured that I can't wait until I get my hands on it. Head over to [...]and check out the message boards for updated info. on Orgy and the release of Trans Global Spectacle. Let's show Orgy our support and buy the hell out of this DVD!

I was a HUGE Orgy fan back in their heyday, and still lament their demise. I think this dvd came out a little late to be popular with all their fans, but if you still love them, this is a great item to have. It goes all the way back to the beginning of their career too, so it'll span the time they were popular. Was a little wary of getting it, but very happy I did.

I'm a die hard Orgy fan, have been since before Candyass was released. A friend of mine sent me recorded tapes of their live performances before their first album was released and I was hooked. I've met the band, hung with them for a little over 36 hours and it was an over all great experience. However, like many Orgy fans, I was super excited for their DVD. A friend of mine is personal friends with Jay, so I was fortunate enough to get this DVD for free and autographed by the entire band before it's US release. Glad I did because I must say, I was really disappointed by it. All the Orgy fans that gave this anything above three stars are lying. It's a cool collectors item if you love Orgy, but..it's not something you'd watch over and over. To be honest, I couldn't make it through the entire thing without becoming bored. It's pretty bad when you tell the band to their faces "It was okay, but..it probably could have been a little better." and their response is "Yeah, I know.". The band even acknowledged it wasn't their best work.
So, if you love this band and want to collect their releases, buy it. If you just kind of like Orgy, don't waste your hard earned money on this. Download a torrent. Sorry, guys.

We all had to wait for this DVD for a long time and when I finally got it I was not disappointed. Because I live in Germany I never saw Orgy in concert or anything and this DVD was great to see more of Orgy than just some low quality live bootlegs.
I have to agree that this DVD is more for the fans who are interested in the band itself, if you are just into the music and don't care for the band at all it's probably not the right DVD for you. As for myself I often don't have the patience to watch concert-only DVDs, I prefer behind the scenes material where you can see the people behind the music. I know that Orgy wanted to pack a lot more live stuff on the disc but they had too much problems getting older live material from Warner. It shouldn't be blamed on the band, they had actually planned to include a whole live concert from the VT tour. Also I think that saying that the material was badly put together is too harsh, Orgy are on an independant label a didn't have a huge amout of money to produce it. I don't know what the bad thing should be according to some people, I don't need a heavily animated navigation. The only thing I criticize is that there should have been more chapters to choose from. I feel the need to refer to the review below, raging about the band being drug addicts. It's not a secret that they took drugs, the majority of the fans knows that. And how many more or less successful bands out there haven't taken drugs at some point of their career? But what should Orgy do? Showing off on the DVD how to inject heroine? I think it's quite pointless to complain about showing 'nice' things only. Maybe they could have added more material of the things the crew did and the actual filming but on the other hand it's an Orgy DVD. Personally I wouldn't have enjoyed seeing 10 minutes of the crew working. All in all I have to repeat that this DVD is made for people who like the band and the music, for those who like the music only this DVD could be a disappointment.

Disappointed,
This review is from: Orgy: Trans Global Spectacle (DVD)
I have never reviewed any of the CD's or DVD's that I have ever purchased but I felt like I needed to review this one. Although many people have forgotten about Orgy, I have been interested in them ever since I heard their first CD. Unfortunately, I have never seen Orgy in concert, and my only images of them on stage have been from the Family Values Tour '98 DVD. I was glad when I heard this was coming out because I was waiting for them to finally release some footage. When I saw the back cover of the DVD it appeared that I'd get to see a lot of different songs live-this was definitely not the case. For one, the only way to navigate through the DVD other than "Play All" is through three giant chapters representing each album. I was expecting to see an option for every song. When I figured out the only way to skim through it was by manually searching, I came to realize that about 90% of it is offstage "antics". Most of the time when I'd skip a little section I'd land on another non-music related segment. I am a big music fan and do like to see the other sides of music artists, but this was just too much. They are a band, after all, and you'd figure that buying their DVD would mean you'd get to see them perform. It's kind of like watching MTV anymore-a lot of stuff having nothing to do with music. All of those songs on the back cover are definitely on the DVD but if you look at them, most are only seconds in length. Even worse is the fact that the videos are playing the audio straight off the albums overtop the real live music they were playing. If you've got their CD's you are basically listening to them over again while different people goof off on screen. I'd rather hear a crappier sounding performance than the studio that has been done live to judge just how good they are rather than for someone to edit the hell out of various live clips that could have been from different shows and different songs. Don't get me wrong, I applaud a band for finally digging into a lot of home footage for their DVD, but they should have added a lot more live footage or a lot more music related segments. In my opinion, this DVD is more for those obsessed with Orgy and those who are not thinking on their own accord. I have plenty of other bands to listen to so I doubt I'll be spending much of my time watching the little things Orgy does when they are bored. Like they said about the production of this DVD, "It's for the fans." I suppose I'm merely a fan of music.
