3.0 out of 5 stars Caveat: technically discontinued now and no spare parts (as of Dec 10)
I bought this from another retailer in 2008. About a year afterwards, 99% of the time, the stem wouldn't fully "catch" when fully depressed. So, every time I needed to change the time or date, it took 10-15 minutes of patient fiddling around to get it "just right" and pop in. There was no science to it - sometimes it caught on the 3rd try, sometimes on 300th...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful with High Quality, September 15, 2009

This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
I have had this watch about a month. My wife thinks it is the most beautiful watch in my collection. My modest collection includes some high dollar name Swiss brands and this watch is in the same league.

The picture does not do it justice. The sunburst patterns on the dial really pop when the light hits them. I've only seen such patterns on the most expensive Swiss watches. The domed crystal magnifies the face, making it easy to read. The watch band is comfortable and not a hair puller. The case size is just right for my 7 inch wrist. It is all stainless steel and the case, dial and band are extremely high quality. Considering Orient makes its own movements and this one is so smooth and quiet, the watch is a diamond-in-the-rough.

It is very accurate for a mechanical watch. It's maybe a few seconds off in a week. Orient watches have a reputation of dependability and longevity and I intend to test that reputation. Operation is straighforward. You advance the 24 hour and day dials by turning the hour hand through the 24 hour cycle. It has a quick-change date, using the first click of the crown. It has probably a 40 hour power reserve, since it is still running in the box the afternoon of the following day when I put it up. It doesn't take much wrist motion to wind it. I'd rate it a 5 with no equivocation. Buy it; you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A watch that holds your attention, August 7, 2009
By
Sean (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
A couple of things not in the specs: the mineral glass is domed--this gives it a magnifying effect when seen at an angle and makes it seem a little old school compared to a sleek flat crystal. At first I didn't like it, but, combined with the fancy dial work, it is one of the things that makes it feel elegant. Also, per Joey at Orient watches, the actual width--including the crown--is 39mm. It's not as large a watch as the Amazon specs suggest. Again, at first I thought it was a touch too small, but any larger and it becomes one of those chunky, sporty pieces. I agree with a reviewer at another site who commented that this watch has an identity crisis in that the dial is really elegant and the size is smaller like a dress watch, but the bracelet and overall feel suggest a more casual piece. It seems too fancy to be casual and too hip to be dressy. I think that this might be the watch's strength, though: it keeps your attention by defying easy categorization. Whatever you conclude, it's an unusual and attractive watch, feels very high quality on your wrist, and keeps good time. Check out google images--a few owners have posted pics that are more accurate than the stock photo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very elegant and classy, January 25, 2008
By
This is my first Orient and I'm very impressed. After reading about the brand online I can see why these watches are very popular worldwide. The fact that the brand is not mainstream in the U.S. makes owning one unique.
The CET05001W is beautiful I wear mine with a 20mm brown leather aviator strap with white stitching and the band makes the watch look like a 1940's dress watch. The hands are a very handsome dark blue and the face is stunning. The applied polished silver indicies catch the light and make the face look like a jewel.
The movement is smooth as silk and accuracy in the 1 month I've owned it has been excellent. It loses only 3-5 sec a day. I store the watch either crown up or down when not wearing it since I read that this helps maintain accuracy. From what I read on watch forums regarding the longevity of Orient automatic watches I expect that I'll be enjoying this watch for a very long time with minimal to no maintenance required.
For the price of this watch it's a real steal. It Looks like a real luxury item.

This really is a stunning piece. The dial work is beautiful---very classy---the blued hands will immediately attract your eyes---and the eyes of others.

Specs:

Movement Calibur: 46B
Solid STSTL Bracelet---linked metal brushed/high polish
Solid caseback
24hr eye
Day eye (pointer day)

For the price of this watch, you eyes and your wallet will not believe what you bought. Orient somehow does it again---offering terrific value, at rock-bottom prices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous watch!, May 21, 2010

This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
It's a fairly inexpensive watch, but you wouldn't know by looking at it. The dial appears to be a shiny white from a distance, but on closer inspection it is a finely textured silver that shimmers. The images do not do the face justice. The hands are a beautiful shiny blue that is almost iridescent when it catches the light. It has the elegant look of a smoothly sweeping second hand. The off center crown gives the watch a nice look. The crystal is slightly domed, giving a bit of a magnifying glass effect at certain angles. The band is made from solid links and has both matte and shiny links with a fold over deployment clasp. I changed the band to a black leather strap with alligator grain. It looks like a very expensive dress watch with leather.

The movement is accurate. The 24 hour clock can not be set separately from the main hands, but it is a nice addition anyway. The watch is also not hackable. The second hand does not stop when setting the time.

One thing to be aware of: The watch is a little smaller than i expected. The specs on the page say the case is 42 mm. It is 42 mm including the crown. Without the crown the case is around 38 or 39 mm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another quality Orient!, July 12, 2009
By
This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
Got this watch as a gift from my wife and I love it. Orient's in-house movements pack as much quality as much more expensive fancy timepieces. The textured dial is beautiful. I wear it on a brown leather strap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive watch for the money but watch out if you have a big wrist, December 30, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
I will be doing a video review soon but I just wanted to throw my initial thoughts out there.

My wrist is 8.8" in circumference, which seems large compared to every person who's picture and video review I saw, apparently 7" is nominal for a "man wrist." Nevertheless, for the money, and the features, I went with this watch as the band size did say "mens." When I first received the watch one of the squeeze buttons was caught and the wrist band wouldn't lock properly but I squeezed it a few times and everything popped into place, thought I do wish it had the safety latch, more for peace of mind than necessity, and really I'm just being super critical. It does turn heads, which is cool.

Now on to the whole wrist size thing. With all the links in the band the watch is somewhat too big, it will shift back and forth and given a little tug I can rotate it completely around my wrist. With that said, for my wrist size, there isn't enough room to fit a finger between the band my wrist, not even a pinkie, so its just BARELY too big. So naturally my first thing to do is to remove one of the links, problem is, now it is just BARELY too small. It leaves indentations in my skin after, and this was after wearing it for about 1.5 hours and seems as though it may have even bruised portions of my wrist which are rather boney.

Now after all that whats my point? I wish there were half sized links I could put in this watch, then it would be the perfect size. At first, given my casual dressing style, I figured this watch too fancy and too flashy (i hate flashy, it just screams "i'm an attention whore and need some help" at least in every day situations i.e. going to the grocery store) but it grew on me. I think its a great watch to wear if you are going to run errands as its fun to look at, and its classy enough to wear to a formal function. I must admit this is my first wrist watch in about 12 years and what turned me off from wrist watches were the fact that i bought them from rite aid and with in months they would eventually become moldy/smelly/slimey. I decided to "upgrade" and I don't regret my choice thus far even given the sizing issue.

I would definitely recommend this watch to anyone out there on the fence about it. It looks great, its a wonderful entry level watch for those who are serious about their timepieces. I'm just a fan of quality engineering in general, I appreciate a good watch as much as a good car. Quality workmanship is what draws me to products and this definitely has it. Now if I can just find some way to make the band fit perfect...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent workmanship, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Orient Men's CET05001W Multi-Eyes White Automatic Watch (Watch)
Wow, the picture does not do it any justice. This timepiece is a work of art. Its my first Orient and I'm sold. For the price this is a steal. And its an automatic to boot. I'm looking at other Orients for my next watch- a Blue Mako perhaps. I had to take a link out of the watchband because it was too big but now I'm good to go. (I'm glad I bought a watch tool kit)! You cannot go wrong with this watch in any color.
