Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

This classic timepiece is a watch that should truly be treasured. This model follows the motif of classic looks throughout the history of mechanical watches. There are, however, a few minor changes that add to its traditional theme. This may be the perfect gift for your father or for yourself if you enjoy traditional watches.

Although there are many watches that follow the same design, this watch’s feature are truly exceptional. If you look closely at the surface of the dial, you will notice the checkered patterns that gives the dial extra texture. On the 6 o’clock indicator, there is the date indicator so that you are able to view the day of the week.

There are two different levels to the crown (time-setting knob). The first level adjusts the day indicator located on the 3 o’ clock position. The second level adjusts both the time hands and the date of the week. To change the date on the watch, you have to first rotate the hour hand forward in time until you notice the change of the day i.e. from Monday to Tuesday.

You will see that the crown comes with the official Orient logo engravings. Another feature for this watch is its luminescent hands. This allows the owner to enjoy the watch during the night. Also, the watchcase is water-resistant up to 50 meters.

This series of watches comes in either a solid stainless steel band or a genuine leather band. The metal band comes with a combination of matte and finished links. This adds a two-tone shine to the metal of the watch. You will notice that the leather bands have white stitching on the edge. Metal bands come with a deployment clasp, which protects the watch from inadvertently falling off.

There are 5 variations to this watch, 3 of which are in metal bands and 2 of which are in brown leather bands. The metal bands have three different dial colors: black, blue, and white. For the leather band models, the watch comes in either a black or white dial.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Watch - Really 4.5+ Stars, April 10, 2009
By
J. Faulkner (Manchester, CT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Orient Men's CEV09002W Wide-Calendar White Automatic Watch (Watch)
This is my first experience with an automatic watch, and I think it was an excellent choice. I'd read good things about the Orient brand, and it was certainly inexpensive enough to make it worth a try. It's a very sharp looking watch, without an overly "busy" face distracting you from its main function: telling you the time, day and date. It's also been rather accurate, from what I understand about automatic watches, gaining about 4 seconds in the first week I've had it.

I'm very pleased with the overall look, feel, fit, and finish of this watch. It seems to be of very high quality compared to other automatics in this price range and an outstanding value compared to glamour or vanity brands.

My only quibble, and which keeps me from giving it a 5th star, is that the face is not actually white, as stated. It's a very light silver, done in a very subtle checkerboard style. It doesn't make it any less attractive, but the contrast between the silver numerals and other hour markings is not as stark as it would have been against a plain white background and makes it minimally more difficult to read at a glance. You can't tell from the pictures of it here or any other website I've seen, so if you really want a white dial face, this ain't it.

I'll definitely be trying out some of their other models, and would certainly recommend them. I've got my eye on their yellow-faced diver's watch next. If you are choosing between Orient and another brand, I would enthusiastically recommend you give Orient a try. Their blue dials are stunning, and I've read many reviews about the Blue Mako model that rave about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best value, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Orient Men's CEV09002W Wide-Calendar White Automatic Watch (Watch)
I have this watch, can't say enough good things about it.
Most importantly, it keeps great time. After a week, I would estimate +3-5 seconds per day, compared to clock at time.gov.
Aesthetically, the watch looks very classy, and the silver checked face is beautiful. Subtle, but enough to distinguish it from a plane jane watch. I think the face makes the watch special, I don't think I would like it nearly as much.
This is my first watch with a full day calendar, and I think the reason I like it is that the day is at the 6 o'clock position and doesn't dominate the watch. The date is also easily visible.
Not great night visibility because the hours are only illuminated by tiny dots, but not a big issue.
The band is very nice, fits comfortably, but note that it is a bit shiny. It has grown on me.
Overall, for the price, I really don't think you can find a better watch of this style. Only improvement I can really suggest would be a screw down crown.
Also, I've seen a picture of this watch with a metal band and it looks very sharp, so it is versatile if you ever want to change the band.

1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out!, July 12, 2011
This review is from: Orient Men's CEV09002W Wide-Calendar White Automatic Watch (Watch)
The quality and reliability of this watch are most questionable. As also the commitment of Orient to honour the guarantee on repair. Mine lasted three months at which point the day function jammed, and won't free up. In New Zealand where I live (I bought the watch from a US retailer, payment via Amazon) I find, in seeking repair, there is no Orient service repair agent, as also there's none in Australia. The watch's failure so early on signals a poorly made mechanism assembled poorly, far from the quality claimed of it by Orient. As for servicing, Orient hasn't responded to questions how it might be repaired; indeed they have not responded in any way at all to the issues raised with them. I do regret buying the watch, that it is an Orient, that its guarantee wasn't qualified with limits, and is worthless where I have the problems with it, and that I've wasted time and money on it all round. Perhaps others can learn from those lessons.
