Oriental Rugs in Colour, June 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Oriental Rugs in Colour (Hardcover)
This little (about 5x7 inches, 132 pages)is an invaluable reference. The first third of the book covers history, techniques of weaving (illustrated with drawings), terminology, geography and tips on care and purchasing a carpet of your own. There follows a section of 65 beautiful color plates of exemplary rugs from the various regions discussed, with a paragraph or so on each plate. So much is packed into this small volume that I have kept it with much larger and expensive books on the subject for years and refer to it often. First published in 1962, the latest edition I have is the thirteenth printing of 1976, and I look for it whenever I'm in a used bookstore to give to friends and especially travelers to asia-minor who are interested in the art of the Oriental Rug.
