a book for professional designers, not just for fun,
By Ken Brooks (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Origami Architecture: American Houses Pre-Colonial to Present (Paperback)
This book is an incredible design tool. I originally picked it up as an art teaching tool for my daughters, it was fun and deceptively simple to follow. The finished projects are so sophisticated and professional looking that I've been using it in my graphic design work. What a find!

"Masahiro Chatani" I remember you once telling us at a show, to try looking at your subject and trying to share the idea of what the architect was seeing as they conceived their original drawings or renderings of what they wanted you to see in their structure and designs. "Origami Architecture: American Houses Pre-Colonial to Present" brings some much needed dimension to those buildings and structures that we had taken for granted. While many of us just took a picture of many of these styles of 'American Architecture' and said a thousand words, this is not the case for this book. The simplistic dimensions reveal themselves in the cutout designs and give the buildings new life. I just wish that the book was thicker with more content than the pre determined standard, like most of 'Chatani's' work.
Like all his books though, I find them full of great value. For those interested in the fine art of 'Kirigami', this book has something for all our talents to explore. For those new to the art form and those advanced, this is a 'fun' and entertaining endeavor. Enjoy!
