"A wonderful combination of origami papercraft and entertainment!"—Robert Sabuda, author of The Night Before Christmas Pop-Up

About the Author

Joel Stern has conducted many origami workshops for all ages in camps, schools, community centers and libraries. Joel is the author of Animated Origami Faces, Jewish Holiday Origami, as well as Washington Pops!, a collection of do-it-yourself pop-up cards of famous buildings in Washington, D.C. Joel lives in Los Angeles with his family.

More About the Author

I've enjoyed origami since my childhood in Omaha, Nebraska. When I first started doing origami, there were fewer than five origami books that were easily available in English. All diagrams were done by hand, there was no email, no Internet. I was lucky to have lived in New York City in the 1970s, and was a frequent visitor at the Origami Center of America, which was also the home of Lillian Oppenheimer, the woman who did more than anyone to promote the art of origami throughout the world.

Nowadays, there are hundreds of books in English, all easily available, and thanks to the Internet, origamists from all over the world can stay in touch with one another. I have origami friends in Japan, Brazil, Germany, Israel, Great Britain, France, and the Netherlands, to name just a few places.

Over the years I've conducted many origami workshops in camps, schools, museums, community centers, and libraries. These days, I coordinate a monthly origami club that meets at the Roxbury Park Recreation Center in Beverly Hills, the fourth Sunday of every month, from 1-4 PM. For more information, you can go to the website of Origami-USA (www.origami-usa.org), and then to Resources > Find an Origami Group > Local and International Origami Groups > POP (Pacific Ocean Paperfolders.

Daughter (5) and I have great fun working through these projects one at a time and then **playing** with them. Great introduction to origami. Better than expected and more challenging than it looks at first glance!

In fact, a very good primer for fostering engineering principles (following directions; attention to detail; optimization for intended use; imagination/creativity; resilience/perseverance; effectively using available resources to create 'something out of nothing'; et al.).

This is a great origami book for the classroom! It is filled with fun paperfolding games and ideas in under 100 pages- all simple projects that are relatively easy to follow for even novice folders. The instructions are clear and the diagrams handsomely illustrated.

As an added bonus, Joel includes suggestions for parents and teachers at the end of the book, as well as pointing the way to additional resources.

I am still in summer vacation so I didn't look at the book in detail. For what I have read so far, I can do quite a few projects with my students(9-11).

Shipping and packing were good as always. Thank you Amazon.
