Book Description

1568815840 978-1568815848 September 4, 2010
This handsome book is aimed towards those with an intermediate skill level, but the origami basics included at the start of the book make it accessible to beginners. A number of beautiful models are offered, ranging from cubes to prisms to dodecahedra. As with the author's two previous books, Origami Inspirations provides step-by-step instructions and color distribution suggestions to create the more than 30 intricate designs presented. The book also includes a chapter featuring designs by origami artists from around the world, and these projects provide a happy complement to the author's own exciting inspirations in the rest of the book.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The comprehensive nature of this book makes it a wonderful selection for both beginners and experts alike. I was particularly taken with the many models that can be made with just six units--the butterfly cube being an outstanding example of a most pleasing form. --Rachel Katz, OrigamiwithRachelKatz.com, co-author of Fun Folds

A whole book full of amazingly attractive new modular pieces. This book is highly recommended to all modular folders and those wanting to dabble in this pastime. Readers who purchased previous volumes in this series [Marvelous Modular Origami and Ornamental Origami] should, no doubt, unhesitatingly order this volume because of the high standard of diagramming and model novelty applied throughout the series. --David Petty, British Origami Society

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Models of Origami Inspirations, December 11, 2010
By
Joy Dutta (Santa Clara, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Origami Inspirations (Paperback)
I can proudly say that I have all the three books of this author! Like her first two books, this one also shows how to make some exciting and pretty looking models with very clear diagrams.

First section of the book gives several tips for better folding as well as mathematical information on models based on geometry. Second and third sections contain several diagrams for a variety of cubes. Remaining part of the book contains diagrams for decorative dodecahedra.

The models based on pentagons in this book are a new twist to modular origami. I love making the traditional lily (it looks so pretty and real) and the same made from a pentagon looks much better. And then there are 5 different flower dodecahedra made with pentagons. However, my favorite model from this book is 'Whipped Cream Star' which appears on the cover of the book. The simplicity of the unit of this model is quite amazing.

Some well known artists from different parts of the world also have contributed to this book. These models range from intricate geometric assembly such as 'Four Interlocked Triangular Prism' by Daniel Kwan to flower-type assembly of Dahlia by Tanya Vysochina.

In short, one more must have from Meenakshi Mukerji for anyone interested in Modular Origami.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing constructions using such simple rules, October 18, 2011
This review is from: Origami Inspirations (Paperback)
No matter how many books I read on the subject of origami I remain impressed by the skill of people as they turn a flat sheet of paper into a complex three-dimensional shape. This book contains a series of detailed instructions on how to create some incredible shapes. There are color images of the final results and it would be hard not to be intimidated when looking at the finished product when you make your first fold.
The geometric rules of angles and side lengths are the basis for the precise folding needed to keep everything organized, so there is a great deal of underlying mathematics. However, the real point of the book is the creation of works of art, minimal knowledge of mathematics is needed in order to follow the instructions. Therefore, the book is unusual in that it could be used to equal effect in both math and art classes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs More Detailed Illustrations or Video, January 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Origami Inspirations (Paperback)
I yearn to make the origami pictured on the cover, but I cannot figure out how to do it.

I get through a page and three-quarters of steps. After that, the directions are obtuse for me.

I wish the author, who is a celebrated origami artist, would sell some videos.
