This is an excellent CD, with Alejandro's rich, velvety voice sounding great and the musicianship throughout superb. There are some terrific tracks..."Tantita Pena" with its flamenco feel, 2 marvelous Manuel Monterrosas songs, "¡ Ay Amor !" and "¿Donde Vas Tan Sola ?"..."Duerme Tranquila" which is sung with so much heart and soul, and "Pajaro Perdido" with its tropical sound and lovely flute melody. There are some other songs that lean towards a modern "pop" sound...but I much prefer the more traditional rancheras, which I find musically stronger. I have 2 peripheral complaints:

Alejandro is the best,

This CD is one of his best so far. I hope some of these songs will become classics like "Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella", etc. To me they already are simply because they are performed by the incomparable Alejandro Fernandez. I saw him perform some of these songs on Sunday in concert with his Father (the great Vicente Fernandez, el Rey de la Musica Mexicana) and I had to get the CD. These two men Vicente and Alejandro Fernandez are to me two of the greatest singers the world have ever seen, and they are my two favorite singers. Please buy this disc, it is worth your money to hear the beautiful vocals and music.

A Great and Peculiar Production...,
By Donald C. (Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Origenes (Audio CD)
Alejandro Fernandez has said many times that he is always looking for "new sounds". We can see this on his musical productions, from "Muy Dentro De Mi Corazon" (mariachi/traditional) to "Me Estoy Enamorando" (boleros) to "Mi Verdad"(mariachi/traditional) to "Entre Tus Brazos" (pop), and finally "Origenes". The CD starts of with the nice sounding single "Tantina Pena" which heavily borrows flamenco sounds and rythms. The very talented poet/composer Fato made excellent contributions with the beautiful "Si Tu No Vuelves" and the inspiring "Duerme Tranquila" which adds that romantic-pop flavor to "Origenes". Beautiful lyrics coupled with rythm is savored with "Amor De Luna" and while a very poetic and sentimental "Come Pez En El Agua" adds a gracious touch to this production. The more traditional Mexican sounds are also found in the contributions made by the talented composer that is Manuel Monterrosas with "Ay Amor", the highly-rythmic and beautifully composed "Donde Vas Tan Sola" and "Tu Regresaras". Another welcomed contribution is by Roberto Cantoral with "Jamas Te Vi Tan Linda", which is truly an inspiring piece. Overall, this musical production is a gem and quite peculiar. With different sounds and great musical interpretation by Alejandro, it is a definite addition to any music lover.

Una Vez Mas Alejandro Fernandez Evoluciona,
By "xcaret" (Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Origenes (Audio CD)

A Charro's Innovation,

Alejandro is the first Charro who elevated mariachi music to a new level. Mariachi music with a concientious message like "Duerme Tranquila" directed to today's young women getting pregnant and being dumped. Mariachi music with a catchy danceable tune like "Tantita Pena" The whole CD is Mariachi music mixed with orquestra music wich equals "QUALITY MARIACHI MUSIC"

Return of "El Potrillo",

This is vintage Alejandro Fernandez. No singer in Latin music has made the improvements that Fernandez has made. He has always possessed a powerful voice. Now he accompanies that with a tender almost whisper-like technique that really captures the emotion of each song. For my money, this is a must have, in the wonderful evolution of Alejandro Fernandez's singing career.

Alejandro Fernandez without Pedro Ramirez,

You have his old albums? Wondered how he might sound if the songs he records are arranged by other people other than his father's team of writers, producers, and arrangers? Well, this is what this cd is. One interesting arrenger on this cd , which I think is one of the best in the genre, is Eduardo Maguellanes. His arrangements are very beautiful yet I don't think Alejandro's voice fitted up to the arrangement. Other arrangements are done by Kiko Campos who is more of a pop arranger. Nevertheless, he did a good job in this cd. THere is also an extra hidden track : Las Mañanitas. I think it is very bad. For some reason it leads me to be believe he tried to secularize the traditional song by taking out parts that include San Pedro and San Juan. If you get bothered by the original version because of that then get this version. I don't know why this cd is called Origenes because the songs are not anything related to that word. ONe high note and praise is the arrangements in the cd which some are very new to mariachi. THis is not a ranchera cd. It is more like pop-balada ranchera which suits Alejandro Fernandez right. I have seen him perform when he started with his father and once in Teatro Blanquita. Back then I saw promise but by now , if he cared, he should be at least some kind of tenor. His image does seem to have gotten better. 3 stars because of the beautiful arrangements. |
