This review is from: The Origin of Speeches 2nd Edition (Paperback)
The Origin of Speeches title is a play on Darwin. Do you believe that human language develped from monkey grunts or that the Tower of Babel story contains the truth of an original universal human language (Genesis 11:1) being big neurological banged into all the languages of earth (From the Hebrew AReTZ, earth, TERRA reversed). In science this is called Monogenesis of Languqage theory). Did an Almighty Creator custom design language? DO ALL WORDS HAVE ULTIMATE MEANING? This book will explain how proto-Hebrew roots appear in all languages and all words. The research is ongoing. You will be amazed. Go to edenics.net for more information and an interactive dictionary. You will say a loud WOW.

Insightful and Fascinating but poorly written,

Mozeson's "Edenics" hypothesis is truly intriguing, even if controversial. The idea of a single mother tongue for all of human languages has become a largely standard belief among linguists (see the NOVA video, "In Search of the First Language", for an overview of the issue of language origins) and the theoretical basis of Edenics is, in my opinion, as legitimate of a highly-contested theory of language origins as other controversial theories such as Nostraticism. Such endeavors are inherently hampered by the lack of solid (i.e. "accepted") empirical data and often severely criticized by the academic establishment (note how the linguists in the NOVA video mentioned above get a bit reactionary when giving their view of the Nostratic theory).
However, a significant difference between theories like the Nostratic theory and Mozeson's is that (in keeping with his hypothesis that classical Hebrew is the nearest extant equivalent to "Edenic") Mozeson puts more weight on the recursion of root-word _consonant_ patterns in seemingly unrelated languages, following the analogy of Hebrew, which was originally written only in consonants. This changes how data is looked at, because it minimizes the interpretive "clutter" resulting from the terribly fluid nature of vowel qualities in language change, which allows for more clarity in comparing data from seemingly disparate languages. Why only three stars? While Mozeson explains in the introduction that he is targeting a popular rather than an academic readership, that is poor justification for the jargon-ridden, propagandist tone of the book. This obsession with punning, jargonism, and expressing his ideas through the lens of an us-vs.-them mindset severely detracts from the appeal and readability of the book. As a college English instructor (with a background in biblical languages and descriptive linguistics), I typically grade down for that kind of language use because it hinders effective and convincing writing. Reworking the material in a more appropriate style (e.g. that of an academic monograph) would really help, as Mozeson presents some rather intriguing data to support his hypothesis.

Back Before Babel,
This review is from: The Origin of Speeches: Intelligent Design in Language (Paperback)
More than just groundbreaking, this book
represents the manifesto of a growing movement. Mozeson and his fellow Edenicists around the world have gradually been raising an imposing tower of Babel-babble-busting connections among widely varying languages, tongues as diverse as Latin, Greek, Swahili, Cherokee and Japanese. Examples are provided here in copious detail; many hundreds more English words and foreign cognates can be explored in the companion E-Word CD Dictionary. The book itself is the culmination of truly prodigious scholarship, presented in a style ranging from the deeply profound to the breezily colloquial, intended, not for specialists, but for intelligent lay readers. It is an extraordinary excursus through the thicket of languages, following its abundant branches back to a single root. Whether or not readers will leave convinced of Mozeson's central thesis: the monogenesis of language, lovers of language will surely find this work a rare treat and never be able to look at words quite the same way again.

This review is from: The Origin of Speeches: Intelligent Design in Language (Paperback)
PROFESSOR MOZESON IS A LINGUISTIC GENIUS IN THE WORLD OF ETyM(OLOGICAL)------->"TRACING THE ANCESTRY OF WORDS" RESEARCH. THIS BOOK WILL BE A BLESSING FOR MOST, BUT FOR THOSE LIKE THE LINGUISTIC PRIEST OF EVOLUTION, IT IS THE MOAB-----[*MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS],DEMONSTRATING THAT MAN HAS ALSWAYS BEEN MAN & LANGAUGE LIKE MAN HAS NEVER EVOLVED FROM SOMETHING ELSE. BEHIND BOTH MAN & LANGAUGE IS EVIDENCE OF AN INTELLIGENT DESIGNER. MOZESON'S WORK DESERVES PRAISE!

The mother of al tongues,
This review is from: The Origin of Speeches: Intelligent Design in Language (Paperback)
Dr. Mozeson is a rebel and it is good. In a world where judges are coerced to decide whether certain scientific theories are correct or not, based on pure political reasoning, Dr. Mozeson is not afraid to point to the truth even though it is not political correct. He is not afraid from Intelligent Design and from opposing the high priests of the Linguistic science like Dr. Chomsky. Ironically, he uses Dr. Chomsky's own theories to prove the point of monogenesis of languages. The book discusses the author's theory about a likely one source for all spoken languages. He dismisses the Euro-centric theories of the 19th century about some proto-Indo-European language and put in the center a basically Semitic language, a close relative to the biblical Hebrew.
Anybody who knows any Semitic language notices almost immediately that the word for the 'earth' is almost the same in those languages (AeReTs in Hebrew, AaRDH in Arabic). And those are ancient words, never borrowed from any European language. It might have been a coincident would it be a rare example, but it is not that rare. Even if we pare from Dr. Mozeson's theory any somewhat questionable method, the core material and vast amount of examples must make any open minded person think. This material may not be easily dismissed even though the Academic world would not agree. ZA

This review is from: The Origin of Speeches: Intelligent Design in Language (Paperback)
This is an intriguing study of the origin of all human languages and a fascinating and brilliant discussion of how words, as they migrate from one language to another, shift their basic letters by a few well-known rules that are easy and fun to learn.
Origin of Speeches is a great way to learn about language, any language. You also learn alot about history and how academic fads or theories, like Darwinism can obscure important and accessible information. This book also shows that the Bible's account of human origins, especially language and modern science are not opposed to each other and that science is giving more support to many aspects of biblical accounts of who we are and how we learn and think. Exciting and important; this is a must read...
