THE SELF-TITLED ORIGIN ALBUM.,
By "stabface" ([chellmsford], MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Origin (Audio CD)
This is one of the most brutal albums I have ever heard. It hits you really hard right away from the beginning of the first song 'Lethal Manipulation (The Bonecrusher Chronicles)' and does not let up one bit throughout the entire album. The musicians that make up Origin, Mark Manning-vocals, Paul Ryan-guitar/vocals, Jeremy Turner-guitar/vocals, John Longstreth-percussion, and Doug Williams-bass have crafted the perfect combination of intense, blistering song writing and shaped the songs with unusual and puzzling time signatures.Though the songs do tend to run together, the only way that I can fully enjoy this Origin album is by listening to it in it's entirety. Another reviewer describes the Origin sound as reminiscent to early Deicide, which is true in a sense, but Origin have taken the intensity and weird time signatures to another level making Deicide's music sound like pre-school gibberish and fret-board fumblings. I love Deicide just as much as the next guy,and am not trying to put them down, but I have to say that Origin does it better, and with finer precision. If you want an album that is packed with total unrelenting fury then I would advise you to purchase the self-titled release by Origin. It truly is amazing. Origin get my vote for best release of 2000 easily.

Relapse Records keep on churning out great band after great band, i am very pleased with this release, it is awesome played deathgrind, while yes it is brutal it is also technical and thought out intelligence not just blazing chords for no reason, the percussion is an attack on the mind, crushing power chords pummel the listener, drum beats pound the listener, vocals erupt in aggression. Buy this release and enjoy intelliegent Metal.

Here I live in Kansas and it took me this long to listen to Origin. Of course, since they signed to Relapse they haven't been around here very much. I must say that Origin is arguably the heaviest band I have heard. Nasum, Cephalic Carnage, Soilent Green, nope. Maybe Mortician or something. But Origin play this hyperfast-grind very well. I was blown away when I first heard them, and I listened to this album 4-5 times in a row just because it was so good. The drummer is phenominal. I like to compare the feel of the music somewhat to Meshuggah, just because of the polyrhythmic nature of the album. Short, fast, staccato blast beats and guitar, combined with two and sometimes three part singing: low, mid, and high screaming. Some of the most undiscernable lyrics ever, but who's gonna care. I'll just conclude this with: wow.

Beautiful Drumming,

I actually bought this cd when it came out as i am always in search of new Death Metal as things have been slowing down the last few years in terms of good metal releases. This work i feel is a good solid debut as other reviews have said, but would like to further mention the other reason i bought it. The Drummer John is the former drummer from Angel Corpse, who i feel are one of the best metal bands ever, and is the reason i bought it. He proved to me once again that he is one of the best drummers on the scene. Amazing percussion work, it is worth the buy purely for that.

Dirty Debutants...,
By claus_byrial@hotmail.com (Denmark) - See all my reviews

This debut CD featuring one of the fastest and most dexterous drummers in extreme metal, namely John Longstreth (Ex. Angel Corpse)is a descent into the land of a thousand riffs... An assult of the senses with it's relentless spasmodic rythm-shifts and epilepic drum-patterns all performed at maximum speeds, this CD will leave you lying in a corner not knowing what hit you... CD's like this one, along with the latest by Nile and Krisiun, are showing the way for Death/Grind Metal to proceed and reach new hights... Relapse Records has outdone themselves once again... Welcome to the fold, Origin...
