I downloaded this as the FAOTD without reading the negative reviews and thought this was an amazing game. Everyone who says you need to grind in endless mode for hours is a complete idiot, because if you continue story mode you unlock more modes to get a better amount of points instead of being stupid and trying to play one mode.

I really enjoyed this game, once you get past the tutorial and get into doing it on your own, it is quite addictive. It's like space invaders meets tower defense-type-game.

Having said that, the negative reviews complaining about the IAP's make me laugh.
If you want to unlock all the ship upgrades, you can do that immediately without working for it for 99 cents! I wouldn't buy it because I WANT to earn it, I WANT to unlock it myself. Nobody is twisting your arm! You can play the game and earn the upgrades as you go, as is intended with just about every game there is.
If you don't want to encourage IAP's... Enjoy the game and don't pay for things you can earn!

These 1-star-tards are annoying. I scored this gem as the FAotD and I solidly give this game 5 stars.

I've banked maybe 4 or 5 play hours now and it is quite addicting and adequately challenging/frustrating.
The in-game purchase people are complaining about is an option to fully deck out your ship for 99 cents, which I don't recommend doing. It's the kind of thing that would break the game experience and take all the fun out of it.
Working for your upgrades forces you to strategize and plan ahead.
When I unlocked the "mining" mode, I was able to last 20-30 minutes on my first time and mine over 50k giving me over 500 credits.

Graphics are good with a 2nd built-in mode for tablets. Nice, if you have both a phone and tablet (like me), so you don't have to buy two different versions.

Difficulties seem to have a sharp curve over time, but this adds to the enjoyment forcing a different strategy on the replay.

All in all, definitely worth a buck and a quarter.
