4.0 out of 5 stars Original Album Classics Again June 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
This is the second Original Album Classics box for Weather Report and there's no overlap whatsoever with the other one so consider this "volume two". And considering there's only 5 albums left (the live 8:30 along with the four albums with Victor Bailey), you should expect a third volume eventually.

THE ALBUMS:

"Weather Report (1971)": An extremely short lived line-up features Alphonse Mouzon on drums and Airto Moreira at the percussion table, who would quickly bail on WR for Larry Coryell's Eleventh House and Return to Forever respectively. Miroslav Vitous plays both acoustic and electric bass. Its arguably the most "progressive" album Weather Report has done due to its unusual chord structures and often dissonant sounds. The AAD remastering was done in 1992 by Vic Anesini and sounds pretty good despite some age and source related issues.

"Tale Spinnin'": From the more chaotic Alphonso Johnson-era when the band would frequently change personnel every few tracks. Here we have Ndugu Chancellor (from Santanna) on drums and Don Elias and Alyrio Lima on percussion. Some of the most popular Weather Report tracks like "Man in the Green Shirt", "Freezing Fire", and "Badia". This is the most recent remastering of the bunch, done a few years ago by Mark Wilder for Icon O'Clastic records and sounds excellent.

"Heavy Weather": The album that put Jazz Fusion on the map (for better or worse). Features the classic Zawinul/Shorter/Pastorius trio as well as Alex Acuna on drums and Manolo Badrena at percussion. "Birdland", "Teen Town", "A Remark You Made", "Havona", etc. Heavy Weather, as well as Black Market, are the most frequently remastered albums Weather Report has put out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy weather rules June 22, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I have the old turn table LP pf Heavy Weather which I have enjoyed greatly so thought I would fill it out with the rest of their albums with both collections. But some of the albums I have found hard to get into but I will keep on listening them now and again to find the magic they hold.
