I just found out about this awesome Original Album Series on Amazon's website a few weeks ago. Although I already own all 5 albums, I love how it was delightfully repackaged in economy size. :)

I started listening to Natalie Merchant during my high school days back in 1991. Gosh, I really love her sweet, charming, warm, sexy, yet fierce voice, all rolled into one! I was already familiar with a lot of 10,000 Maniacs' hits, such as "Like The Weather" and "Trouble Me." But over time, as I started listening to their catalog from 1982 to 1999, I realized how diverse their sound was compared to other bands. They have a lot of abstract lyrics and great storytelling in the vein of Tori Amos, Patti Smith, etc.

Now I'm going to list my absolute, favorite, sacred songs from all 5 albums!! :)

1985 -- Can't Ignore The Train (one of their fastest songs ever), Grey Victory (this version is much better than the "demo" from 1982's "Hope Chest"), Just As The Tide Was A Flowing, Back O' The Moon (one of the sweetest songs to date), Maddox Table, Everyone A Puzzle Lover, Daktari (again, this version is superior to the 1982 "demo" version), Tension Makes A Tangle.

1987 -- Hey Jack Kerouac, Like The Weather (this was the very first song that I heard from the band), Don't Talk (one of the strongest melodies ever), Peace Train (this song was later taken off the disc because of an unfortunate incident that happened with Cat Stevens -- now known as Yusuf Islam), Gun Shy, My Sister Rose, City Of Angels.

1989 -- Eat For Two, Please Forgive Us, You Happy Puppet, Headstrong, Poison In The Well.

Great collection of five great albums. Natalie Merchant is underrated as a vocalist. And lyrically the songs are both intellectual and fun. Some story matters are a bit heady and heavy, but they are presented with such great love that it tends to go unnoticed. The band's playing is a stark contrast to the Natalie's vocals as well as the lyrics themselves. But, that's the fun of any Maniac's album. Presented here in replica album sleeves, this is a must have for fans or collectors. too bad they can't include mini lyric sheets to go with it. Overall a great deal, you get five albums for a small price and all of these albums are great. Purchase this along with Hope Chest and you pretty much have all of their studio releases (Campfire Songs has a few b-sides and rare songs that also should be explored) but for casual fans, or beginning fans this is a great way to start. I already have these cds, I purchased this for my replica collection. It's like having a mini vinyl collection (only on cd)...I prefer to own cds rather than download them. and this is a great way to re-experience the tangibility of a new album...a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Killer Deal August 21, 2013
By mr. a
Format:Audio CD
Started listening to Natalie Merchant back in 2004 and fell in love with her voice. This is my first time hearing her with her Maniacs and what a great experience it is. The Wishing Chair is the weakest of the 5 albums but the other 4 are great, this is one amazing deal 5 cd's for the price of one, you can't go wrong with this. Love the songs Trouble Me, Like The Weather, Gold Rush Brides (MTV version), These are day and Arbor Day. There is too many great songs to list them all, but each album has it's gems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ups and Downs October 31, 2013

There is one pearl in the box: In My Tribe. The acoustic is good and the others are Ok (Blind Man's Zoo) or bad (The Wishing Chair).
