Miss the Jamaican Woman,

This is a womderful CD! The only flaw (and it is a big one) is in the exclusion of the story of Jamaican Woman & The Old Raisin (Which you have to se the video for). Other than that, I highly recommend the CD!

Humorist look at Serious topics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Original Broadway Show Recording (Audio CD)
This marks the start of a very illustrious career. Ms. Goldberg draws you in the with the humor and then starts to make you think about some serious topics. Lots of big laughs and subtleties that make her truly an artist and not just a commedienne. Now if they would just release this show on DVD, life would be very good.

It changed my life,
By A Customer
This review is from: Original Broadway Show Recording (Audio CD)
I grew up a democrat in a REALLY conservative small town in Texas. (Think Bush country) I listened to this tape (no CDs yet)constantly in those days. I identified strongly with some part of every character Whoopi played, and the social commentary didn't make it unfunny, it made it worthwhile to listen to. Anybody who kids themselves into thinking stand-up comedy is just good for a few cheap laughs is missing the bigger picture. Comedy has been used for centuries as a tool to make, inconspicuously, social commentary. Think Shakespeare, Moliere,...

Whoopi is fabulous!,

Whoopi Goldberg is hilarious while doing very pointed social commentary. Each of her marvelous characters makes you laugh and makes you think. Check out the video to see the fifth character, a Jamaican woman.

Funny? Yes and no,
This review is from: Original Broadway Show Recording (Audio CD)
This Cd started out fine but I quickly found myself wondering why Ms. Goldberg had to throw in a social commentary in every skit she did. For example, Fontaine at the beginning was really funny but when she started on her visit to the house of Ann Frank, well it got to be a bit overdone and the humour disappeared all together. Some things were not made for comedy. I can see where she was going, but if this is suppose to be a comedy album it wasn't very funny. Surfer chick was the best, cripple lady, dull and predictable and little girl sheer nonsense. After finally getting this Cd I was somewhat disappointed. Here is my personal rating based on chocolate bars and barf bags. 5 chocolate bars is tops while 5 barf bags, well don't even bother with it. So in the end I rate this Cd, 2 chocolate bars with a mild recommendation.
