4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, of course, but works fine
We have fairly hard water so want to dry the car pretty well after washing. I no longer use a chamois but just use industrial towels - they work fine for a typical waxed car. But it used to take a half-dozen towels - there really is quite a lot of water on a wet car! I bought this because I'd found that an old windshield wiper worked pretty well to knock off the heavy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Long time Califonia Water Blade user, new design is horrible
As the title states, I am a longtime California Water Blade user....... approximately 10 years now.

I must say this new design is horrible! I hate it. I tried it out and the blade just bounced and skipped over the freshly washed car. They did away with the famous "T" blade design and went with what I call a "kitchen knife" like design. I have no idea why they...

We have fairly hard water so want to dry the car pretty well after washing. I no longer use a chamois but just use industrial towels - they work fine for a typical waxed car. But it used to take a half-dozen towels - there really is quite a lot of water on a wet car! I bought this because I'd found that an old windshield wiper worked pretty well to knock off the heavy water, but was dangerous... metal parts! This has a double-sided silicone blade and a hard plastic (thermoplastic) spine handle. It won't hurt the paint and knocks off the big water very quickly. In use: I keep the car wet until I've finished washing, i.e. wetting down the whole car when rinsing an area, until finished. Then I sweep off the thick water from a fairly large area, such as the hood and front fenders, then follow it with a towel, and continue. The "blade" does squeak a bit (it's silicone, after all, and a bit rubbery even when wet), but it works fine with a fast, affirmative, sweeping action. And for a really quick wash, I don't even follow with a towel; just take off the big drops with the blade. Takes less than a minute after washing. Good tool.

I have no idea why they got rid of their famous T blade design, but they did. I wrote an email to the company, but have yet to hear back from them. I tried this out once, and then sent it back to Amazon. The thing just plain stinks.

I will continue my search to find the Jelly Blades with the red, yellow, and clear handles. Those were the best blades made by California Car Company.

I consider myself a well educated automotive detailing person, so save the "you didn't use it right" comments. Like I said before, I've used these things for a good 10 years and this new design is useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire Trucks take time to wash and dry, June 20, 2007
By
This review is from: The Original California Car Duster 20014 11" Dry Blade (color may vary) (Misc.)
As a firefighter, one of my responsibilities is to make sure the truck is clean when putting it back in service. The water blades are now standard issue in both of our stations. They save an INCREDIBLE amount of time. We use all sizes depending on the vehicles we're washing. Some towel drying is needed when we're being picky and getting ready for a parade and the such, otherwise the blades do the entire job. Upstate NY winters often require us to wash several trucks per day. Thank you California Duster Co.!

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, November 23, 2007

One word: humbled. I consider myself a car buff and take pride in maintaining my car's looks and mechanical condition. I give any device that saves labor without cutting corners a fair shake. So when I thought I could shave a few minutes off my bi-weekly wash-dry-polish-wax routine, I wanted to give it a shot - after all the California duster worked great for me.
But the dry blade was an utter disappointment. After several tries at all kinds of angles and varying amounts of pressure, all it did like another reviewer said, was "stick & jump & bump" all over my car's paint. It even left ugly white marks which I had to buff off.
Sent it right back and am back to microfiber towels for drying.

This water blade does a great job of taking the majority of water off of the car's surface. I keep my vehicles waxed, which draws lots of beads of water, and this blade does a great job of taking them off. It's a great value. I even ordered one for my mom.

I OWN THE ORIGINAL CALIF. WATER BLADE AND THIS AIN'T IT.
THIS ONE HAS A SHALLOW HANDLE AND NO T-TYPE BLADE.
IT SLIPS FROM MY HAND BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING MUCH TO GRIP TO.
I MADE SOME INQUIRIES AND THE SAY THE ORIGNIAL CALIF. WATER BLADE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO??

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the origional!, July 16, 2011
This review is from: The Original California Car Duster 20014 11" Dry Blade (color may vary) (Misc.)
The so called original is the same price but way smaller and harder to use than the original. If you must, get the large. It's still not as good as th e original original but it is double the price so in theory it should work better, right?
Actually I'd just stay from either one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not all its cracked up to be., December 2, 2010
This review is from: The Original California Car Duster 20014 11" Dry Blade (color may vary) (Misc.)
Bought this thinking that I would lessen my drying time. Not so, I still need to have my Absorber with me to get all the water it leaves behind. Also the entire blade is flexible so it makes it more difficult to use.

I've tried a number of car care products & found most of them to have some redeeming features. The Dry Blade doesn't. It doesn't glide over the suface of the car. Rather, it sticks & jumps & bumps over the car, without removing much water in the process. Hard to imagine that this is good for the car finish. I tried it twice (once each on my 2 cars). Same awful results both times. Went back to using a chamois & a few microfiber towels. Suggest steering clear of this product.
