4.0 out of 5 stars cheap and effective car care
This product works rather well. I seem to have an OCD concerning car care so naturally I'd like to save a little time and money while trying to stay 'spotless'. This duster does the trick. Do read the directions though. The wax from the duster will streak at first especially on windows. Also, the duster doesn't pick up things like water spots from the dew the night...

I bought the duster hoping to get rid of the dust easier. Yes it did got rid of the dust, but in the same time, if you have a new car, you will see that it created fine scractches on the surface of the paint. Even though it says it will not scractch you car, but you will see the fine scratches under the sun, it was bad. Word of advice, do not use this on your brand new...

This product works rather well. I seem to have an OCD concerning car care so naturally I'd like to save a little time and money while trying to stay 'spotless'. This duster does the trick. Do read the directions though. The wax from the duster will streak at first especially on windows. Also, the duster doesn't pick up things like water spots from the dew the night before. But for things like pollen, road dust, and small bugs it works great.

EDIT: It's now been nearly 7 years since I first wrote this review. I wanted to add that I am still using the same duster! The vinyl sheath that it comes in has split down the side but the duster is still going strong. I've never washed it but since I kept my cars pretty clean anyway it never was badly soiled. Occasionally fibers will fall out or get stuck on trim pieces but, I would say it is 95% intact after all these years. I probably use it a few times a month on average now but about twice a week for the first year or two that I owned it.

You can trust that this item works well and does not scratch your paint. I was always skeptical previously and just asssumed these things scratched the car. But my paintless dent removal guy uses one and highly recommended the California Duster to me. He is fanatical about keeping his car totally detailed. And this product works so well that he never even washes his car unless it gets rained on. He just dusts it every morning before he backs out of his garage, and if needed he uses some liquid instant detailer and a microfiber cloth after dusting if he feels like it. It takes a total of less than 2 minutes to dust off an entire car, yet the result makes your car look like you just washed it.

I use the California Duster before putting on my car cover so that there is no dust between the car and car cover. If you have a garage, it's quite useful since dust settles on the car during the day when you are out and about and at night, even garaged. You won't have to wash your car as often if you use the California Duster. And dust won't build up if you use it often enough. Before discovering the California Duster, I found that after washing my car, I could only use my car cover for a few days before the car got too dusty to put a cover over. Now I find that I can keep the car dust free and use the car cover for much longer, which in turn means I don't have to wash the car nearly as often.

I got the plastic handle California Duster which was significantly cheaper at the time I ordered. Although the wood handle one looks classier and probably feels nicer, the plastic handle one feels plenty sturdy, for the value oriented, get the plastic handle one since it's the exact same brush anyway!

I am really very happy with what I paid for the Calfornia Duster and would not hesitate to recommend one to anyone with a car or motorcycle. Just be aware what it is not made for a car that is wet or very dirty. My only complaint is that it is not actually made in Calfornia.

I first got one of these as a gift back in the late '80s when I bought my first new car. It worked exactly as advertised and in the intervening years, I have replaced it only two or three times...

It does actually work better once it gets dirtier - I can absolutely attest to this as I got a new one about a year ago, and the older one worked better at first... After a couple weeks (I dust the car about about four times a day), it started to work as well as the older one. I took the old one and tried washing it by hand with cold ater and Woolite, as recommended on the makers website, and it definitely was cleaner and still worked just as well.

If you love your car even half as much as I do, this product is worth EVERY cent!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Works!, August 14, 2005
This review is from: The Original California Car Duster with Standard 15" Cleaning Head (Automotive)
Somewhat skeptical, I ordered this car duster expecting it to be more hype than practical but it does a pretty good job! Be aware that it works best on dry dust. Once your car gets a sprinkling of rain or the dew settles on it, you'll be better off washing the old fashioned way.

Works great ONLY if you have dry dusts. If the dust is wet, or was wet and now dried, it doesn't work. Otherwise, great as a touch up dusting in between washings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Miracle Cleaner, October 4, 2006

I am a car fanatic and have used one of these dusters on my cars for the last decade or more. As long as the surface is dry, it works wonderfully. Once some contaminants start to build on the paint, use the duster, then some Quick Detail with a microfiber cloth to get the paint really clean. My cars always look new with these things. I just traded in my 2004 RX-8 after 2.5 years of using the duster, and it still looked absolutely new. I now use it on my 2006 Lancer Evolution and, again, the car looks brand-new (which it is). I love them.

Well... I bought this duster with a bit of skepticism... having just bought a new car! It works very well when you literally have a light dusting to remove... which is what I was looking for... for in between car washes!

Let me get to the point, All the positive reviews about this duster are correct! I've had this duster for a couple of weeks, used it on three cars, and it absolutely works wonders. It completely removes the dust on cars and leaves the car looking just like it has been washed. The duster's bristle is soft and thick, doesn't scratch, the paraffin wax helps catch dust, and the duster is large enough to easily clean surfaces. Using the duster is also as simple as it gets, you just swipe the duster over your car, no need to scrub or even rub. It's that simple! I haven't had any problem with the duster leaving wax streaks because I left it on newspaper to air out for 48 hrs per instructions. The dusters instruction also mentioned that there is no need to wash the duster, "that the dustier it gets the better it cleans". And from my experience that seems completely accurate. Of course it also states, if you feel the need to wash the duster do so by hand washing it. The duster also comes with its own case, so there is no need to worry about hanging it out in the open. I've been using the duster once every week and it leaves my car looking as if I just washed it. I absolutely love this car duster and would completely recommend it to everyone.

Update***
After carefully examining my car after numerous uses with this duster, I have to admit I am very disappointed by one aspect of this item. The duster won't scratch the car but it will leave SWIRL Marks! I noticed very bad swirl marks on my and went through an extensive test to try figure out what was causing the swirls. I had though it was my Micro fiber cleaning sponge and towels, but after examining everything, and then testing out the duster my conclusion was it was coming from the duster. As a dusting product it is great, but completely horrible if you are trying to maintain a show car finish on your vehicle.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Detailers Dream Come True, November 18, 2009
This review is from: The Original California Car Duster with Standard 15" Cleaning Head (Automotive)
Have used a California Duster for over 15 years on brand new and old car finishes, from black to white. This duster keeps a relatively clean, maintained car looking show room shiny and takes only minutes to use. How many things out there can give you a spiffy shine in a couple of minutes?

The key to using the Duster is to follow the clear instructions provided. You MUST let it dry out a day or two before initial use. It has a waxy coating on the fibers (all the more reason it DOES NOT scratch the finish) and it has to dry out before initial use. Have read a couple of reviews that claim the Duster scratches, but suspect it is because they didn't let it dry out. The one time I forgot to do that, it looked liked it scratched (scared the daylights out of me!), but it was just swirls on the surface from the moist wax - easily removed. And, if there is moisture on the car's surface, it too will look like a swirl or scratch until it dries.

Second, it is is a DUSTER, NOT a scrub brush. Only to be used on finishes that are otherwise clean but have dust/pollen on them. If you scrub with it to remove mud, splotches, bird droppings, etc., it WILL scratch, just as dry rubbing a car's finish with ANYTHING will scratch it. You let the Duster do the work, lifting the dust right off the car. Doesn't just push it around, but actually lifts it off.

Maker claims it only gets better with time and dirt, but of course can't figure out how that could be true. BUT, have never noticed any problem with use and dirt accumulation. Tried washing once, which maker says you can do, but seems to remove the waxy coating and defeats the effectiveness. Ya, it may last forever, but I buy a new one once a year - hey it's pretty inexpensive.

Be the envy of neighbors, get one of these and be as amazed as they will.
