4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad If Conditions Are Right
This is a fun toy and the kids get a lot of amused looks when they ride on it. It works well when the conditions are right, and not at all when they are wrong. The "right" conditions are a flat and smooth surface (asphalt or concrete - doesn't matter) that is completely free of gravel or any any debris. Under those conditions, the design works fine. Just sit on it,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kids Love It!
The kids love their Turtle. My 5 year old enjoys riding it and it took my 2 year old a few days to figure it out. Only works on smooth flat surfaces, doesnt climb slopes. My 2 boys ride them mostly in our basement playroom and love it. Cant really use them outdoors where i live, pretty bummed out. These turtles are not cheap for the little amount of use we get out of...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad If Conditions Are Right, January 6, 2008
This is a fun toy and the kids get a lot of amused looks when they ride on it. It works well when the conditions are right, and not at all when they are wrong. The "right" conditions are a flat and smooth surface (asphalt or concrete - doesn't matter) that is completely free of gravel or any any debris. Under those conditions, the design works fine. Just sit on it, start moving the handles, and the motion of the front wheels "magically" pulls you along. A little pricey for what you get and the limited usefulness, but it's a fun toy if the price doesn't matter and you have the right space to use it. (Let me emphasize again - if you don't have these conditions, you'll NEVER use it.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas present, November 14, 2006

(REAL NAME)
I got a flying turtle the Christmas I was 4 years old. That was 36 Christmases ago and my mother still has it. All 12 of her grandchildren have enjoyed riding the 'turtle' and it still works almost as good as new. The tires could use replacing, but what do you expect after that long!? I think she said she paid a whopping $25 for it in 1970! So the price hasn't gone up that much if you count inflation!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Flying Turtle, February 22, 2009
This is our 2nd Flying Turtle, the first of which was a gift from Santa, to my son at Christmas. My 10 year old son fell in love with his turtle and soon after Christmas both my 5 year old daughter and 11 year old son wanted one. I decided to purchase another for my daughter's birthday and both continue to be great fun for everyone. Even though my daughter has brachial plexus palsy, which keeps her from using her right arm it does deter her from having a fantastic time with the Flying Turtle. She is able to ride it with absolutely no problems and is actually better at it than her brothers. She is able to steer the flying Turtle with her other arm easily and her feet help her to propel it forward.
Now that we have two, I am even able to ride with the kids and it supports my adult frame without problem.
Now I need to buy a third for my 11 year old who has been wanting one as well but whose birthday isn't until the summer.
I would definitly recommend it to a friend.

I originally bought one for my daughter but when my son's saw it they would not get off of it. So I got two more so they could all have a race. If you live in an apartment, and condo complex with alot of blacktop this toy can be very fun. To stay out of the road we go on the sidewalks, tennis court, empty parking spots, or in a racketball room later in the day the wheels don't damage floors. My kids even go back, and forth on this in the kitchen. Just be sure your on a level surface this will not go uphill or on big uneven sidewalk cracks. My kids really enjoy these. I can even ride it with my kids being 5'2 and 98 pounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy!, June 24, 2009
A home version of the ones you see in kids parks.
Well built (in USA) and sturdy, and my kids (7 & 11) love it!
You need a large, flat, smooth area to ride.
Just put your feet on the handlebars, pull the handlebars left and right, and it goes.

When I bought it Amazon had the best price/shipping deal I found.

We just bought our Flying Turtle at SAVERS for $2.99 and it is so great that I might have paid $299.99. Well, maybe not that much but it is a really fun, well made ride-on toy that my son and I love to play with. My son is 9 and thinks it is awesome. Buy one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FAIR review!!!, December 14, 2009

Would you rollerskate in snow or ride your bike in the water or even take your snowboard on the gravel and then get mad that your not having any fun???!!! NO!! The people that complain about the toy because of surface areas are NUTS!! Of course you need a flat surface area...duh! I have 4 kids and neighborhood kids over all the time and they ALL want this one. I have to use a timer (literally) when I pull this thing out. The kids see it out and all come to watch and wait for there 5 minutes (thats how long I set my timer for) It makes sharp turns, it can build speed and if you wipe out then you are so close to the ground that you don't get all scratched up. I have seen ages between 3 to 10 on it and having fun. If you are too tall then your knees have to fold up into your chest too much and you can't build momentum.

We have the industral version but they are very similar, we bought this as a PT tool for our son with delays and has been a huge hit! He loves it and loves to show other children how to do it. He still doesn't have good balance at 7 for a bike and gets left behind from neighborhood kids on a bike so with this HE can be just as fast as the other kids!

It doesn't look like a scooter, rollerblades, bike, or skatboard so all the neighborhood kids want to come and have fun with it when we get it out. My kids have all the outside toys that I have mentioned and this is the most popular.

Is it pricey? Yes, and you DO have to have the right surface but that is not a reason to give it less then 5 stars. We like to take it to the park with the tennis courts and basketball courts because they have a very smooth surfaces and you can really get going.

ONLY DOWNFALL....The kids have to wait their turn, we only have 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Original Flying Turtle, August 3, 2009
I bought my daughter a Flying Turtle 25 years ago. At that time, is was called a Roller Racer. As she spent hours on the Roller Racer and the fact that she enjoyed it so much, I wanted my grandson to have one as well. I was very pleased to see that it is still around, although under a new name. It is undestructible and will provide my 3 year old grandson hours of entertainment.
